I recently bought a batch of 15 1.7 ohm Smoktech Single-coil cartomizers and it seems like over half of them are DOA. When I say DOA I dont mean they are dead, they function - but not right. No matter how much juice I put into the carto, if I look down the tube I see hot glowing red. Vapor output is extremely low and burnt.

Is there any way to fix these? Am I doing something wrong? Or is there just a high failure rate on these?

I have that happen with Boges also, but only 1 in 7 on average.
I buy them in 3.0 ohms; fill the carto fully and let it sit for a bit.
Start off around 3.5-3.7V and all I taste is burnt filler....been there, done that and toss it.
Grab another and life is good again. I have yet to open one and see what's going on, but I will on the next one I get.

Sucks to stick one in a tank just to find that its a dud and have to try to salvage all the juice...I'll hold onto the "bad" ones and see if theres anything I can do.

You could always drip some juice in them and test them before putting in a tank. Either put your finger over the hole or some tape. If these are like the DC with the flange cartos the tubes come off really easily too so you might be able to pull them apart unwrap the poly-fill and try to fix them. I put a SmokTech DC with the flange on a eGo wiggled the tube just a little and it came loose really easy..easier than a stainless CE2 tube and I pull them apart a lot to clean/burn them off...

How exactly are you taking them apart? I just tried the 4th one in a row which is burning out and its making me furious! Such a huge waste of money.

Okay I got it apart after some googling and figured out the problem. Chalk it up to experience but I definitely wasn't loading the carto's full enough. The top half of the wicking was soaked but the bottom near the coil was bone dry and the coil had totally burnt/melted the wicking.

My own fault :(

Sorry I didn't get back here sooner..looks like you figured it out. But I'll post it anyways in case anybody else wonders. I put the cartomizer on a eGo firmly grab the tube wiggle it back with firm pressure until I see it coming loose..once it's loose it comes right off..with a little practice you can get a tube off in a few seconds.

Putting them back on can be a bit harder by hand to seat all the way (although the DC SmokTech's are very easy to put back on)..if you have a weak grip you can put them in a vice just be careful to not squish it too hard or you could crush the tube :)

The only tubes I have a hard time getting off so far have been atomizers with the gold connector as they seem pressed on a lot tighter...

Yeah sometimes just giving it more time to soak in helps too. Well live and learn..you probably won't have this issue again...
