My first e-cig was White Cloud, which have a reputation on these boards as being very over-priced, but I'm beginning to think you get what you pay for with these things because (amongst other issues) although the cartomizers would get warm, they didn't get uncomfortably hot.

2 cheaper brands I've bought- 1 a KR808, the other something else - burn my lips. (In fact the non KR808 only arrived today, I threw it out within an hour because of this problem.) I mean burn, not just too warm.

So, what brand cartomizers don't get hot enough to burn? What do you recommend?

I use 510 cartos, either soft tips or clearomizers, and replace the rubber stopper at the mouth end with a delrin drip-tip. Never even gets warm, much less burns me.

As far as "getting what you pay for", I can't see that $250 for a starter kit is anything *but* a total and complete rip-off. $120 for a single battery? Like I said elsewhere, the thing had better mow my lawn or play "Halo 3" for that price...

Here, take a look at a Chinese wholesaler's site... it'll give you an idea of what suppliers (like WhiteCloud) are paying for their units. Hey, I'm a capitalist... I'm not against someone making a buck, but I *almost* feel bad when my company undercuts the competition and we still have a 150% markup. Whitecloud has GOT to be approaching or at a 1,000% markup. If they're PAYING more that $25 per kit, so help me God I'll eat a can of my cat's food and put the video on Youtube. I can get genuine 510 batteries for less than $10 retail... so $119 for one of these is.... words fail me, but if I could find them, the ECF filter would block them out :)

Hey, if it works for you and you can afford it, great. You could get a lot more for your money, though. A LOT more.

Katz, any cartomizer will get hot if put on a high voltage battery. What is your battery's voltage? What is the resistance of your cartomizers? What model are you using? Kr808? 510? eGo?

Wattage (heat, power) = voltage squared divided by resistance. If you put a LR carto on a HV battery, it will get hot and burn.

It's a KR808-D (1 or 2? don't know). No idea what voltage. The White Cloud cartomizers don't get hot on the WC batteries or the HG cheapies. The cheap cartos from HG do get hot - on the White Cloud and on the HG batteries. After 2-3 puffs I have to put them down for a minute before taking another puff.
I have also briefly tried Cigarti, which are another expensive brand, they appear to be KR808 but have totally different thread. Again, warm but not hot.
With the Non-KR808 batteries I've tried, Elusion cartos do get quite warm, but not so hot I have to stop or get burnt. e-Cig E8 burned from first puff. Literally.

So what about Vapor 4 Life, do they burn? V2?

BTW, it isn't so much about being afford expensive brands, more that cheap stuff is often a waste of money. I'd rather pay to get what I want/need than keep throwing things away.

Katz, it's not about money, it's all about your cartos' resistance. If your kr808 battery is a standard Li-Ion battery, as I suspect it is, is delivers 3.7v (4.2v off the charger). If you put a low resistance carto (2.0Ω or so) on a 4.2v battery you'll probably burn it rather quickly.

You need a standard resistance kr808 carto. Since you're down under, you probably order from HG or EM, correct? They both carry Boge 3.0Ω cartomizers, which should work very nicely on your kr8 batteries. You may also try a box of Kanger cartos and see which ones you like better. Kanger has recently introduced new kr8 cartos with a horizontal coil and they are becoming very popular. In the States, you can find them at Nhaler and IkenVape, but I'm sure they are also available in China. Look for "jumbo" or "mega" or "drip-tip" kr808 Kanger cartos. They are 2.5Ω, usually.

I've been using nothing but the KR808D-1 Premium soft-cap cartomizers from Litecigusa for a couple months. Standard resistance (don't have the Ω figure) on a 5V PT, or 2Ω on an eGo battery with thread adapter. Neither heats up appreciably on my lips. I've taken to using them just open with the caps removed and no drip tip for good delivery and easier dripping. (Waiting for the one or two sizzle-pops before drawing has become a natural thing.)

Hmm, not so sure. Just been trying Cigarti, which appear to be a KR808-D2, and also very expensive, though very chic.
And guess what - they don't burn my lips !
So, that's now White Cloud, Elusion and Cigarti that don't burn. Elusion get the hotest out of those 3.
