Hi, have had my eGo for about 3 days now and i'm already tired of refilling the carts and/or dripping. I vape at work so its usually a hit here and there and off to do some work, so stopping to refill or drip is a PITA.

I started looking for some more juices to buy and i keep seeing cartomizers everywhere. Can someone explain to this newb what exactly a cartomizer is? Is it a new atomizer and cart in one unit? If that's the case, can they be refilled? Does it add significant bulk to the eGo?

Thanks in advance!

It is an atomizer, and a juice reseroir built as one, that is meant to be more disposable. Many refill them quite a few times and really depends on the type of juice you vape. I have been very happy with the clearomizers, or the fluxomizer (same thing) from got vapes. they are on back order for a few more days but other vendors carry them. I can go all day, and they hold 1.5 ml of juice.

Carto is an atty and cart combined, refillable but not as long lasting as an atty. With an ego you can also try a
mega (type B cylinder) atty and cart, with a blue foam mod it will hold about 1.5mL of juice, much less refilling.
Or an ego mega carto, tougher to refill, but atty/cart combo, filled with a syringe and long lasting between fills.

A standard 510 cartomizer is actually about the size of an atty so overall it comes out shorter but the same diameter. You can get Mega Carto's for the eGo too and they're quite a bit larger and hold even more juice. Carto's have 2 main advantages, first they go longer between refills than an atty with cart. Second 5 carto's cost about the same as 1 atty. Some people love carto's, others don't. Next time you place an order just throw in a box of them just to try. You may just like them.

Or being that you have an eGo - you could go to Totally Wicked and order the brand-spanking new eGo TANK atomizer cone and some of the unfilled tanks for it. They are a bit pricey, but if it works as good as I've seen in the reviews, it might be just what you need. Only "problem" is they are apparently selling like hotcakes and I think TW is currently sold out. LOL! But that is, at least, another option for you to look into.

Refillable 510 Cartomizers 2.0ohm

I use the above Boge style or kr808's when I am not dripping
I started using them for the same reason you are describing...needed something that I knew would last me for a few hours at least or that I could be on the road with and not dripping constantly. The ones linked are very easy to refill, you just take off the end cap and fill into the white filler material...it adds about a quarter of inch to the length of the unit as they are slightly longer than a cart/atty...well no thats not entirely true. I Use a drip tip on the end of my cartomizers and that's what adds to the length...and while I recommend that so you can refill them even faster its not needed. The ones linked hold .8ml but seem to be more efficient as using the liquid than carts.

I have every type of cartomizer that I have seen, from the r4's to the joye xl and I just find the simplicity of filling the boge ones are worth the lower juice content...once you pop the top off you see...

Cartomizer+insides.jpg

a white filler wrapped around the central heating element...you just drip your juice into the filler material and it lasts however long a .8 ml normally last you, I have never had one leak, if its for work I normally bring a bottle of juice or an extra just in case it runs low. A boge cartomizer normally lasts me 4-5 times longer than a standard 510 cart...and the taste is more consistent as well, the downside is that they are disposable....but that may be an upside as well...they last me about a week so a pack lasts me a month, the trick is to make sure they never completely dry out, but if one stops performing well its not big deal to toss it and get another.

I still use my atty/drip tips for testing new juices...or just goofing around the house...but for on the run a cartomizer is a hard option to beat unless your getting a full bottom feeder mod (the ones with the juice bottle attached)

I have the XL cartos and use them all the time. They can be refilled. (And I never use a syringe. I just drip into the little hole in the battery contact end, then when it's full, I blow lightly into a tissue to clear the tube, screw on and vape away!) I just got the clear (except mine's yellow) FluXomizers XL and filled one. I like those too!

I can refill the eGO XL cartos numerous times and I do clean them and reuse after they start to get tough to "pull". They last a long time!

Are the Joye XL ones able to be refilled? I was just about to place an order for a 5-pack of them. Also, i see the boge cartos on Liberty-flight, but it has 2ohm and 3ohm. Which should i choose?

Yes all cartomizers, that I know of, can be refilled, some are easier than others. It can be hard to change flavors though...especially if you are going from one extreme to another...for instance filling on with a big red flavor and then coming back and trying to put a coffee flavor in will probably result in a coffee/cinnamon mix.
I have xl cartos, the skinny kind, they work good but I find them to be messy when refilling. Plus I prefer the taste of the 2ohm boge, they do well on ego/inferno/tornados and they really shine on 3.7 volt devices as well.

Sounds like some cartos are the thing for you. They're use-n-lose but you can certainly refill them. It's gonna be more expensive to just use them and discard them but they are designed to do that if that's your style. Personal preferrence. I use 808s and refill them just to save money. I also fill 808 blanks. If you go with the 808s, another option is to buy the Jumbo Cartomizers from Nhaler. They hold 2ml and are quite a bit larger than the standard cartos so you'll be vaping longer before they run dry. Good luck!.
