So I guess the one thing I don't really get with vaping yet is the end user difference between these two.

A tank is a fluid container with a wad of wicking in the middle with an atomiser in it.
A Clearomiser is a fluid container with thin wicking in the middle with an atomiser in it.

As an End user, what difference would I notice if I switched from my iClear 30B/iClear30S/CE5s to and IBT?

I am pretty sure the best way to find out is to dive right in. You can just order a few cartos and see if you like them before ordering a tank. The only one who will know which is better for what reason is you. I love carto tanks but no longer use anything but RBAs because of the cost of buying heads and or cartos. If I were a millionaire I would use carto tanks above anything else.

Generally speaking, you'll get better flavor and consistancy with a cartotank for the reasons you described. Tiny silica wicks may have trouble keeping up with a moderate to heavy vaper due to the small amount of surface area of string wicks. They can't carry enough e-liquid fast enough.

A cartomizer on the other hand is a steel tube nearly completely full of wick material. This wick material (polyfill fiber) completely surrounds the heating coil and represents a much larger surface area. This nearly eliminates the dry hits, burnt hits, muted flavors, and inconsistancy you get with clearomizers.

The downside of a carto used alone is you can't see the juice level to know when to "top it off", and it becomes a guessing game to know when to do so to prevent burning a dry wick. Adding holes to the carto and using it in a cartotank eliminates this problem as each time you take a vape the suction causes juice from the tank to refill the carto.

What you currently use are clearomisers.

What you are talking about is using a cartomiser in a tank.

I would recommend anybody/everybody to try these. I tend to use a cartomiser for the entire 10ml bottle of liquid. It adds £1 or so to the £3 or so I've spent on the juice.

My supply of carto tanks is limited, so it's a boredom thing that gets swapping the flavour and carto at the same time.

i prefer the clearomizers. i haven't used these cartotanks u speak of, but i have used a bunch of those cartomizers (blucigs, njoy) they are ALL crap. clearomizer > cartomizer any day

In fairness, we are not talking the same cartomizers.

A quality cartomizer in a good tank is as far removed from an Njoy as cycling to work and then driving home in a Mercedes Benz.

Cheers mate.

To be ENTIRELY fair, inhaling a days worth of air from Mexico City is better than an Njoy.

Thanks a bunch Bad! The best explanation of a cartotank ever, it's like finally...Ding! The lightbulb goes on over my head and now I get it.

Ok, so with the Cartotank (from IBT).

1) They offer anodized Aluminum or Stainless steel caps...other than looks does this make a difference?
2) The refilling drip tip, how much faff does this actually save?
3) Other than the carto's they sell at IBT what are generally considered the most reliable cartos for a tank? I'd hope for an XL tank but could cope if it was regular or halfling.

1) Other than looks there is no difference.
2) The refilling drip tip is worth the small cost. I have found it makes it easier to get carto's lined back up when you are putting them in the tank, or refiling. I have only one tank that is not an IBT, and it is a tight fit to get the carto past the top cap and its o-ring, the tolerances aren't as good as the IBT's, and I often pop the top or bottom cap off trying to force it without the refiling drip tip. Never have that experince with the IBT's, better build quality, or maybe tighter seal between the caps and the tube?
3) This comes down to personal taste and budget. I like IKENVape Carto's the best. I like the 510 platinum carto's that have no flange. These aren't as readily available and have a slightly higher cost, but I think they are the superior product, and I get the longest life out of them. I can refill a tank many times over before I have to swap in a new carto.

When you order get a few extra thingies, they are the little plastic pill bottles that the tank ships in.
