I used two vivi novas for about a month and began to hate them by the 2nd week. I switched to a carto tank and wished I had used one all along.

Key differences between the two

Clearomizer

-Gives a cooler vape.
-Can't go as high on the voltage without burnt hits
-Burnt Hits unless you constantly swirl the tank so the wicks and coil get saturated
-Flooding out the bottom problems
-Resistance problems
-Need to clean constantly between refills

Carto tank

-None of those problems above
-Warmer vape
-Can refill all you want without cleaning
-Much more consistant vape

Carto tank beats a clearomizer any day of the week.

Cutaway image of a cartomizer used in a cartotank. Holes in the metal tube allow passage of liquid from the tank to the inside of the cartomizer. As a person sucks on the carto in the tank, more juice is pulled to the heating coil and vaporized, and the resulting negative pressure in the carto causes more juice to enter the carto from the tank.

As Zapped pointed out, a cartomizer has ten-fold the surface area of wicking material for the juice compared to 2-4 string wicks in a clearomizer or a clearo tank such as a vivi nova. The cartotank system is a more complex and efficient method than the string wicked system of juice delivery.

A properly working cartotank keeps the wicking material and heating coils in the cartomizer bathed in juice, so that there is more consistancy in the flavor and vapor production, and no dry hits.

i like BOTH damn it. they are both fine devices. especially if you mess with clearomizers.
if you mess with them they give you a vape 1000000x better than a cartomizer tank.
the main thing you need to do in vaping is get a coil saturated in juice.
If you own a reo or a bottom feeder or if you drip you know attys are awesome because why?
because you drip liquid right onto a coil and then you press a button and ur throat gets knocked out.
with a clearo, if you take the little silicone cap off of the coil head and you swirl juice into the coil head?
You get a vape better than a carto tank. Its better than a carto tank because a bunch of juice is getting fried.

A STOCK vivi nova does have a few wicking issues sometimes. sometimes. it depends on a lot.
it depends on the ohm of the coils directly relative to the thickness and number of wicks to the thickness of the juice.
If you thin out the wick of a vivi nova thus unblocking the wick slot allowing juice to enter into the slot-
which then allows you to fully saturate the coil housing with the flick of your wrist, in my opinion...
you turn your vivi nova from a "clearomizer" into a tank atty. Your essentially dripping onto a coil wrap.

Cartomizers are great. You get 5 for 10 bucks. They work well for 4 days to a week and then you have 4 more.
But a Clearomizer head for whatever reason lasts longer. They last a week or more.
I'm still using one that I got around christmas time. lol. I haven't switched it, I haven't even CLEANED IT.
I just dry burn the coils when they stop working. Granted it tastes like burnt silica lately, it still works.

I love carto tanks, but I also love clearomizers.

no, idk? my cartomizers don't always last very long and for the most part they start to disappoint me within the 1st week.

Juice flavors have a lot to do with that. A carto seem to last me until I can't stand to look at it anymore with the cappuccino that I use, while the 555 that I like wipes one out in a week. Both flavors are from the same vendor ... same precentages.

What type of juice are you using? The dark or extremely sweet juices found in the tobacco, coffee, desert, etc flavors can gunk up the pollyfiber faster than the other clear and un-sweet flavors. Something like Boba's Bounty I'm lucky to get two tank refills out of the cartomizer. Luckily it is not one of my favorite flavors, in fact far from it.

I use unflavored juice virtually all of the time and vape with XL cartos alone: no tank. Just for the heck of it I've vaped more than 40 ml of liquid through a single carto several times just to see what happened. Those cartos were still fairly good tasting after more than two weeks of constant use.

I prefer to change out my cartos after vaping 15-20 ml through them. That takes me about a week. The taste is better for the first 15 ml. I attribute taste degradation to the accumulation of heated juice byproducts in the carto and not to burning as I keep my cartos properly filled. Yes, unflavored juice has a flavor but it's subtle.

Flavored juices will have an effect on how long the carto lasts. Some flavor blends are better than others in this respect.

High percentage VG juice work great in cartos and I use about the highest percentage possible.
