Hi everyone. I just made my first order and chose the 401 matte black series. I'm confused on several things regarding e-cigs. Some are general and others are more site specific.

1-) The one I had died. I'm guessing I got the vaporizer wet. I'm really confused on how to refill the cartridges safely. The company I purchased it from doesn't sell replacements like Shawn, which is why I chose his site for my second attempt.

2-) How long does a catridge last? I've seen postings about replacing the fillings and what not. I assumed I could keep adding drops of liquid to one cartridge pretty indefinately. I'm guessing that was an incorrect assumption. What do you suggest for cartridge maintenance and use?

3-) Specifically for Shawn's site, what's the deal with the hybrid kits? They have batteries that fit a different series (i.e. 401 hybrid has a 401 battery and a 402). Why would I need the hybrid kit? Is it intended for people who previously bought a different series?

That's all for now. Thanks for your input!

Well, I'll do my best until someone wiser steps up:

1) I don't know what you had before, but it could have just died because it was crap :) That aside, you can kill batteries by over filling. There are others that can better help you figure out what happened to yours. As far as filling a m401, there are a lot of meathods. What I tend to do is stick the dropper down in the little interior tube (where the white filler is) squirt about half a dropper, or a few drops depending on what your using, push the stuffing down, put in about that much again, then pull the stuffing back into place with tweezers or an unbent paper clip.

2) You can refill a cart a # of times. In my experience, with a 401, you can do it for 5 to 7 days before the filler craps out, other people I'm sure have had different results though. Basically I use them until they taste funny or seem to lack vapor.

3) A 401 and 402 battery are really the same, they are just different lengths (the 401 is the longest) so in a hybrid kit you would get one of each length.

Well done Deliza :) I do recommend that you try filling carts from the bottom up with a 3cc/3mL syringe & needle. Just try it...you might be surprized at the results.

Stuffing carts is completely optional and I'm sure many people don't even bother, since Shawn has excellent carts available for very cheap. The stuffing in Shawn's carts will hold up very well for several refills, but I doubt you'll ever find cart stuffing material that will last indefinitely (we all WISH that were the case, I'm sure). Cart stuffing is ok if you don't mind making the effort to do it right......but if you expect excellent performance, you must have the time & patience to do it really well. You have to fill the cart with stuffing, but not too tightly. You can't have fibers sticking up/out, because they RUIN the flavor when they hit the atomizer. I would recommend just buying a few 5-packs of Shawn's carts for now; at least until you get a really good mental picture of how the carts & atomizers work. I wasted a few bucks trying various cart stuffing materials and there are very few materials that come even close to the stuffing in Shawn's carts for overall performance & longevity. I use a big roll of flat quilt batting material which is capable of working beautifly, BUT it has to be rolled & trimmed JUST RIGHT for consistent performance. There is a learning curve involved and I suggest not fussing with that aspect right away. Also, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND filling carts with a syringe & needle, so that you'll NEVER need to worry about pulling or moving the cart stuffing around...and I'm sure it will last for the maximum possible elapsed time & number of refills that way. I'm new at this too, but I'm learning very fast.

Doc, I have tried syringe filling, and while I agree, it does give you a better fill, I also find inconvient for me. My meathod gives me a good enough fill to make me happy, and just works better for me over all. But thats just me :)

Watch this video: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/m-401-402-mini/7156-re-stuffing-re-filling-m-401-carts.html it shows you step by step how to re-fill a cartridge for the M401. I, personally the first time I did it, did it in step with the video so I could watch and then do (but that's just how I learn).

I just got an M401 from Shawn (Actually it might have been a 402 I don't even remember) but I really like it.

How long a cartridge lasts kinda depends on how you vape. I usually try to use 1 cartridge for 5 days, then switch. Then one day when I have time, I'll clean them/re-stuff them.

As far as refilling goes, I'd much rather try the syringe way because it looks alot quicker but I haven't found a place where I can buy one yet :(
