Great show, very impressive list of work carried out. CASAA rocks!
One point from the show: some things can't be seen if you're 'in it' as you can't see the wood for the trees
..... but I noticed from the recent efforts to set up a similar consumer group in the UK that people are very concerned about exactly how the organization is incorporated and where the money is going. Especially, where the money is going - and of course they have a right to know. Also there is a problem that possible comparisons might be made with the alphabet soup orgs that are basically a front for the pharma industry.
For example if somebody makes a donation to one of those groups, their money will likely go toward the obscene salaries they pay their vastly overstaffed and overpaid hangers-on. I believe that $750,000 is on the low side for one of their directors.
So it might help if CASAA stated more clearly that:
1. Nobody gets paid - some professional fees (accounting etc) are paid, but no one draws a salary.
2. Funds are applied directly to problem-solving, no salaries are paid.
3. Board members even pay some of their own costs such as air tickets to hearings as otherwise nobody would attend, there aren't the funds to pay all the costs.
4. More donations are needed as there isn't enough to pay all costs never mind any salaries.
It seems obvious enough to those working on behalf of CASAA, but the members need to be clearly told these facts, just to avoid any misconceptions - especially when there is so much 'mis-application of funds' as I would call it, in those other groups.
