My Odin came in the mail today, and it's working great! Thank you!

Check out that huge centerbore.. Loki doesn't do that! Loki does a 1/16 (1.5mm) center bore with 1/16 vents. Yours is 2.27mm and 1.6mm vents. Should be perfect even with 100% VG in the winter.

Yes, I noticed the massive holes! Somebody mentioned that your modded Odin filled and drained better than the stock BF Odin and I believe it :) I use 100% VG (or as close as I can get), and it's supposed to get down to -11 around here, so I'll definitely be putting it to the test.

not a big deal, its far from the heart of the atty.i don't plan on getting rid of them at a beuty contest nohow!!hah hah.thanks again!

Glad you are happy RDog. I didn't notice the scratch(es), I really don't pay a lot of attention to the caps on any of them, I'm very focused on the decks however. I forgot how difficult working on those tiny things was.

Hey Tom did you say that you use food grade oil for your modding purposes.... Because this vertex v2 stinks and kinda tastes machiney? Lol..... I did the coke soak, dawn dishwashing liquid even scrubbed the screws still interfering with my juice ..... I was able to build it.... I ground down the screws, not cutting wire anymore ..... I think I'm done buying clones.....

After the Derringer and lancia..... Lol

So did mine. I had to go through 2x boiling water soak, followed by 99% IPA soak, followed by another boiling water soak before the taste went away

I remember Tom saying he used peanut oil or something (note to self: try that). Also remember others saying their vertex was machiney tasting. Gotta be from the original manufacturing.

Usually soaking in some distilled vinegar for a while works for me.

The oils you are tasting are from China I use nothing but peanut oil which has almost zero taste and nothing like motor oil. My $1200 Crest ultrasonic cleaner with degassing feature will be here tomorrow. The machine I have coming is better than the one your dentist or doctor uses. I got it a wholesale for $1200 retail is over $2k. This thing is the bee's knees.. I don't think this will be an issue after today.

One of the corners cut with clones is the cleaning step gets skipped before its sent to me and prior to now I soak everything I drill in acetone which removes any oils on the parts I drill but acetone is a very strong chemical that eats most plastics (insulators)on contact so I can't soak the entire atty or bushing failure would be eminent. With the new rolls Royce of ultrasonic cleaners this shouldn't be an issue.

As long as you aren't pushing your bits to the ragged edge peanut works well. The side benefit of the peanut oil is if you do push a little to hard and it heats up and burns it smells like Boardwalk frenchfries not chemical death like cutting oil does when overheated. With my current set-up I can bore posts or screws at 500rpm all the way up to 5k rpm. The lower the speed the lower the heat, the lower the heat the less the smoke. In the next month or so I will be leaving the peanut oil for a diluted oil flood system so I can really push the limits like 1.8mm holes in GDeal/peko screws.

That's awesome...... But hopefully, you'll get that $1,200.00 back!!! It is very much needed, that taste is what I can only imagine my car mechanics oil laden bays taste like.....?!

Got the HiTorque 7X12 mini lathe while I was at it. That's the Proxxon we were talking about in the middle there.

In all honesty, I have gotten several attys from CH and the second run Vertex V2 is the only one that I had a problem with after my usual cleaning ritual. I put it through the ritual 3 times and it is good to go now. [emoji4]

So, what I am trying to say, is that, it is not the norm with attys that I have gotten here. So don't let that scare ya a away.

On another note...The PDA and Cyclone came today. Got them built and up and running. Since they were both designated for older woodvils (can I say that on this thread?), they got dialed in at .9 ohms and are vaping nicely! That PDA with the chunky pin is a dream to squonk! Very easy [emoji2] Thanks again CH!

The $1200 is an investment for us. CH will never "recover" that investment but he will have a lot of oil less satisfied customers! :D Thanks so much for all you do Tom!! ;)

Hey Tom months ago I sent in an authentic 454 Big Block for you to modify. Back then you decided it wasn't one you could do well. Now that you have been able to figure out the Derringer and the Veritas is this one you might be willing to take another shot at? It isnone of my all time favorites.

I will never get it back as I don't specifically clean attys for money not to say I wouldn't but it doesn't make me any money but at the same time having it might keep me from losing money so it all depends how you look at it. To me it's more of a neccesety like mailers and tape that make up overhead.

Holy crap! I didn't realize that proxxon was that small... I wish I had room for a lathe but it would just dull my focus. I'm a flood system away from having the perfect set-up for my needs. You are going to want the tach and the collet lock so you don't need three hands to change an undersized mill or bit. I also have a led microscope light on mine, makes a huge difference. I will take a pic of mine in a minute.

I actually re-visited the idea a few weeks ago thinking it might be worth a shot. No dice, the 454 just doesn't want to be bottom fed. I could probably do an authentic if I kept the speed way down but the clones use a steel post with a copper pin pressed into the center of the steel, that has catastrophe written all over it. I considered making a new pin but the 454 has very little support for its post. If you want me to drill the copper post in your authentic I will if it means that much to you.
