Its recommended to change your batteries every 3 months so theyve served thier time... what kind of batteries?
Of all the battery safety info I have read never seen this before. Where did you get this from?
Would think that since most batteries have around 300 charges in them a year or more should be expected.
All depends on how much you charge them. I charge mine once a week. 300 charges divided by 52 = roughly 6 years. My Pannies and AWs are going strong after a year.
OP. I have no experience with XTAR batteries but from what I have read people like them.
Some things that may cause the electrolytes to leak is overcharging or over discharge. A manufacture defect may also cause it.
Is that leakage on the negative side? it kinda looking like arcing from the negative screw.
I have AW batteries that are over 1 1/2 yrs. old and show no signs of degradation. I feel it's best to use a 3 battery rotation (1) in my device (1) in the charger and (1) charged and resting.
It looks like you have jammed them in your mod and crushed them to me. That's probably why they are leaking.
What are / were the batteries being used in?

That or the OP was running them stacked, and they were of unequal charge resulting in one being discharged and the other not.
Definitely looks to have some operator error involved.
Squeezing them stacked into a 18650 designed mod perhaps?
Can't do that with all manufacturers batteries as some are longer and will crush as it appears these did. Xtar batteries in my experience so far seem to be excellent but the 18650 button top VTC4 core batteries I have are longer than my VTC5s are by a couple mm's.

Ive been using them in a silverback so never stacked them. I haven't even been using them constanly. They were the first 18350 batteries I bought soon followed by a pair of aw 18350s. I use all 4 in rotation. They probably get used every other day and the aw's are still rock solid
Just in case you missed this - 4.25 continuous amp discharge. This means those batteries should not be used for anything that is less than 1 ohm. Above that as you said, the risk is lower.
Only reason why I say it looks like you crushed them is because the base of the one that leaked is pressed in. I've not used those batteries because I don't know enough about them to decide if they are safe or not.
As for AW - yes. They are the only 18350 I have and they are excellent. Maybe take them back to the B&M you bought them from. I doubt they will replace or refund due to the physical damage, but it might be worth a try.

When I first bought the pair of xtar's they were the only battery brand they stocked in 18350 and seeing as I already bought the charger with the same name i was guessing they were ok. Well ive learnt my lesson, another pair of aw's (the new ones) on its way
