What are / were the batteries being used in?

BTW, Those batteries have a 4.25a CDR.
Just in case you missed this - 4.25 continuous amp discharge. This means those batteries should not be used for anything that is less than 1 ohm. Above that as you said, the risk is lower.
Only reason why I say it looks like you crushed them is because the base of the one that leaked is pressed in. I've not used those batteries because I don't know enough about them to decide if they are safe or not.
As for AW - yes. They are the only 18350 I have and they are excellent. Maybe take them back to the B&M you bought them from. I doubt they will replace or refund due to the physical damage, but it might be worth a try.
