Caution: * NEWBIE ALERT * ...with a question of course

Hi all,

I've been experimenting for a few weeks with the Joye eGO (2 piece)...and have been painstakingly trying different levels of juice to produce the best vapor and taste etc...and have found that a half (or less) full cartridge is giving me the best results...is this typical? I was initially told to fill the cart to satiation and then to "flick off" the excess into a paper towel and then i'd "know it was full" - but is it REALLY about being full? I found when it was full i got crappy vapor...but when the filler in the cart looks almost dry i seem to get my best hits...any similar experiences from eGO users? Also, my wife and i are trying a new juice "RY4" and on her unit it vapes GREAT with lots of vapor and decent taste with little to no "aftertaste"...on my unit it vapes well but leaves a taste in my mouth that i can only describe as "WD-40"...we both started fresh carts for the new juice but mine continues to have this awful aftertaste while hers ROCKS...any explanations for this? Is my atty possibly closer to death than hers? I just assumed if the atty was dead it was DEAD and there'd be no vapor at all...but are there various "stages" of death where this "WD-40" taste is happening in my unit and not hers? It sure is frustrating being in the initial stages of our new lives as non-smokers but it seems that there are so many unknowns and questions to be asked...i was told by a friend that there isn't a question that can't be answered by the passionate folks in here so hopefully i can get some good feedback. Also was told that the manufacturer of these Joye units puts a primer in the atty's to help initial start up so when i do need to make my first replacement should i expect an odd taste and if so how do i burn it off?

Thanks all,
LP

Blow out the atty. As you have already found out primer is god aweful stuff. Place threaded end into papertowel and blow (hard) through other end. Add about 3-4 drops of juice to bridge and "cigar puff" about 5 or 6 times. Load cart and place on atty then vape away. A full cart should look sort of like "slush" and not have a large "pool" of liquid on it. A pooled cart will cause a flooded atty and will produce light vapor and a nice gurggling sound.

BTW - Welcome to ECF and happy vapes to you

Hey, welcome Lakeside... I'm a newbie too.
Been lurking for a while, but finally registered.

I can definitely relate to your experiences with my old Green Smoke product. From what I can tell (and based on what I've read on this forum), taste can vary depending on the battery being used. For example, I have two different length batteries from Green Smoke (long and short). Same cart on each behaves differently, both in terms of taste and the amount of vapor produced. I think it has to do with the voltages involved and ultimately the wattage being applied to the cart.

As you can tell based on my user-name, I just got me the new Darwin mod unit (delivered just today). Tried out some dripping via Drip-O-Mizer (from nHaler) and the vapor/taste on it was heavenly. Darwin is also supposed to adjust the voltage automatically based on what it senses from the atomizer attached. The only trouble is that I blew out two of my new carts for no apparent reason and have sent questions out to nHaler to see if I'm doing something wrong. I'm still learning, but one thing I can tell you is that Darwin (and probably other Mods too) definitely outperforms those small e-cig units.

Good luck vaping.

Hi all,

I might have used some misleading wording in my first post - i'm using a Joye eGO (the newer version - the atty and atty cover come as 1 piece together so it's battery-atty-cart)...and here's what i'm trying to nail down with respect to the odd taste i'm getting in one of my units (the eGO starter kit comes with 2 full units): I’ve got two eGO units, both with fresh batteries and brand new carts – one unit has been used more extensively thus far than the other but is still producing good vapor…but when both units are filled with the exact same juice, the 1 unit vapes great with no "WD-40" aftertaste (the less extensively used unit) while the other unit (the more used one) vapes OK but has the bad taste…so given that both batteries are fresh and I’m using brand new carts on each and the exact same juice I’m guessing that the bad taste is coming from the atty in the one unit. As this is my first ever unit/atty I don’t know what happens when an atty starts to break down…does it slowly start dying and stop working properly (and giving bad taste) or when an atty dies it just DIES (ie it should work properly right up until the moment it dies and stops dead?)

Still confused and still getting that awful WD-40 taste, hope someone with specific Joye eGO experience can help...

Again, thanks to all who initially responded.

The atty is a 510 atty, so eGo specific is not really required. (The batteries of both produce the same voltage too.)

My average is one in 10 attys have what I describe as a metallic taste that just never quite goes away. It may be that is what you have, just one of those attys that is never quite right, but otherwise works fine.

You could have some gunk around the wick and coil too. That can be cleaned out. Search ECF for cleaning methods. Many folks have great luck with dry burning, but I'm not one of them.

Hopefully it is gunk, because having one of those "off" attys is just annoying.

Hi Hoosier, thanks so much for the advice...i think though what was causing the bad/metallic taste was using too little juice...would i be correct in assuming that if i'm vaping too dry it can quickly ruin even a brand new atty in these eGO units? I was also wondering if dragging too long can cause immediate atty damage but i conscientiously count to five in my head and release the button so hopefully that's not the problem. Anyways it's been a really trying start to this with all the troubles i've had but i'm sure it all comes down to trial and error and learning from experience when something is wrong and WHY it's wrong. For now i'll try to ensure i always have a sufficient amount of juice in the cart and hopefully i don't get the bad taste again because i've found through two atty's now that once the taste is there it's there for good, no matter how new the atty is...to the newbie there really does seem to be quite a very fine line with this stuff!

Thanks again

Thanks Liv2Ski - does this advice apply to (Joye eGO) units where the atty is ONE piece i.e. already attached/enclosed in its "cover" - i understand older models came as two pieces - an atty and an atty cover. The ones i have is "just an atty". Looking at it, it doesn't seem that there is any pass-through area that blowing in it would do any good.

Thanks for the warm welcome
