Crispy yes that was fun for me as well. I did that with a scubagenv3 i used to have and season the ss wick then used the kendal wire to wrap my own coils.
I have since sold that setup.

I solder wire onto nichrome..wrap it around a micro screwdriver to shape the coil then feed in the wick (sometimes wetting it a bit and making a point) once the wick is in I tighten the coil a bit then feed the wires through the ceramic..solder them back on..wash the CE2..dry then put the tube on..good if not better than new.

Also I tend to get rid of the shrink wrap that holds the ceramic on the tube as it isn't needed because the wires and cup will hold it in place. I have it down now and doesn't take me long and it works for me..I also build "CE2omizers" (atomizers made out of CE2 parts) for dripping with my DoD because Carmel tobacco kills atomizers but CE2's hold up to it better :)

Chrispy nowadays im getting burnt fingers and such my eyes just are not as good anymore and hate glasses...lo
Never did one of the things one wears on there head that magnifies everything but have since gotten away from all of the soldering once in a while its fun again for me.
Like when i put the madvapes vv together as a kit and have some Lm2596 chipsets coming in the mail to make my own.
Did get some burnt fingers with this new little soldering gun.
Perhaps i should wear a sewing thimble !

Yeah my eyes are not as good as they used to be and I have reading glasses..I waited awhile before I finally went and had my eyes checked a couple years ago and got readers but should have went 7 or 8 years ago. I burn my fingers at times too..sometimes you just forget and grab the iron a sec :D Plus I'm using a fairly new butane soldering torch/iron and it vents out a hole out the side when I have a tip on it so that has made my fingers warm a few times lol. But it heats up fast and is nice to be cordless when soldering small things.

One thing I have always been good at when working on cars or other things is being able to do things by feel..having that skill helps as my eyes are aging and I don't need to see all that clearly to do things..I can see a magnifier in my future though as I will be 43 this year and the time is flying at this age...

You know Chrispy i always wondered how those butane soldering torch things are and considered getting one. When i was going to put my madvapes kit together i knew my other gun was to bulky with its tip an all and purchsed at menards a cheap 30 or 40 watt one for like 5.00 with lifetime guarentee ..lol
It works good im just not used to it as its small compared to the gun like shape and trigger on my weller.
Anyways the 40s were nice and things moved along at a good pace the 50s well things speed up real quick dang have another birthday this month...:)

I've been using a $7 Radio Shack 25w for years as I only did light soldering and it worked ok..got a BurnzOmatic recently and I like how it works a lot but found out they don't sell replacement tips for it so it might be a bust long term..hopefully when I need a new tip I can find a universal one that fits..if not is was only $20 and I will buy another better one if necessary. I probably could use the other tips to solder when the pointed one goes so I will probably at least get a couple years out of it.

Yeah I tell people all the time older people don't have more patience it's just that time flies by..really time stays the same but we slow down so it seems faster..it's all good though I don't mind getting older :)

Getting older always beat "the alternative" for most of us

There's no reason to fear "the alternative" though as it's going to happen to all of us and is just part of the cycle of life. We are literally made of stardust as is everything around us..remember the "nothing can be created or destroyed just changed" theory means "the alternative" is just change..lots of people fear that change I don't..although the transition might be a bit hard. I just try not to spend much time thinking about it...
