Hi Guys,

I'm new to vaping, and was previously using the e lites disposables (which are terrible). So, since I am still new I didn't want to go out and buy something premium right off like a nautilus or such. So I have a regular old ce4.

My question relates to the clearomiser's. I have the ce4 disposables which seem ok but for a fairly light vaper (2ml e liquid a day) how long should these last? I find my first one which admittedly is 2 weeks old now doesn't seem to produce as much vapour any more.

Would it be better to get the (I think) ce8 which afaik is rebuild-able so I just replace the coil every now and then?

I am fairly sure I enjoy vaping and will get a proper clearomiser at some point, but for now, I want to keep costs down as much as possible.

I appreciate any suggestions you can provide.

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will.

I have pretty much always vaped around 2ml a day.

The shortest life CE4 was less than 48 hours. The longest was about a week.

Do you know the game Monopoly? Do not pass go, do not collect £200, DO NOT BUY A CE8 !

There is so much junk on the market and companies that will overcharge you in the time it takes to click "add to basket". I could type out the entire CE8 story from last year, but you don't want to hear it. (funny as it is and a totally cautionary tale)...

Have a look here. This will tell you what's around and roughly how much to spend.

Clearomizers

A CE4 is now a £1 item. In fact, you can buy 10 for £8.
An evod clearomiser should never be more than £4. A mini Protank 1 or 2 more than £6 or £7.

Beware. I have seen Protank 2s on sale for £24.99. I paid £6.99

VIP and Vapestick charge £4.99 for one CE4. They buy them for 27p.

The Kanger Aerotank range and Aspire Nautilus range are about the best off-the-shelf clearomisers/tanks. Neither will work great on a normal eGo e-cig battery, which then means upgrading....

Just ask, anytime. :)

Thanks all for your detailed responses so far.

DJS, thanks for that website. Definitely one to bookmark. The choices are so overwhelming. I find my ce4 clearomiser is a good vape (while it lasts). But as you say, shelf life varies largely hence why I am thinking of using up the 4 I have left (I bought a pack of 6) and going with something else.

I had bought a 1100 mAh battery along with the ecig originally. I like a spare battery to ensure I have no 'down time' (no incentive to light a regular cig pls). However I find it's very long and as a result it separates in my pocket. Which I don't trust having read numerous stories about 'exploding e-cigs'. So I was contemplating replacing the battery.

It does sound like once I am done with my existing CE4's I would perhaps be better off just changing my entire E-cig?

New battery and a proper clearomiser?

The other reason for using the ce4's currently is the fact that I have yet to settle on a preferred flavour of e-liquid. Would I still need multiple clearomisers (even the more premium ones) to change out flavours?

Wow, you sound very much like the spot I was in 2 weeks ago. I had a standard 1100 mAh eGo battery and was using disposable clearomizers. However I brought a lot of 10 disposable CE4s on eBay and was having such bad luck with them (at least 2 were DOA, 1 stopped working even before I finished the first tank). I think I only tried out 6 of them  . I too initially wanted to stick with the disposable CE4s because I wanted to be able to quickly switch out flavors. But the unreliability just wasn't worth it to me. I picked up a Kanger EMOW kit with a glass tank.

Since the disposable CE4s can fit on the EMOW, I don't feel limited. However the vapor production is so much better on the EMOW, I don't mind sticking with a flavor (I like) for a bit. I finished off a bottle of Apple Rings from Mt. Baker and a bottle of Menthol Light from Mr. E-Liquid (both 10 mL each). True the dual coils and variable voltage seem to burn through the e-liquid a bit faster anyway. I feel like the Apple Rings juice gunked up my first coil a bit. It was still working, but turning my liquid dark in the tank and compromising the taste. A popped in a new coil this morning to go back to vaping Menthol, and it tastes wonderful! :D

Mind you I haven't rinsed out my glass clearomizer when switching liquids. I don't mind the bit of "crossover taste" when switching though. I currently have about 7 different flavors of e-liquid and as I mentioned before, I'm happy spending some quality time with them before I switch. I do want to get a second variable volt battery and perhaps a different glass clearomizer (Kanger genitank or aerotank mini maybe) in about 3 weeks. That's when I can have some real fun and variety with switching I figure! :)

Hmm. Maybe. I sometimes carry around long e-cigs (Spinners/Twists) but have recently converted to the iStick battery. The iStick is good, but less so with mid range tanks. Some of the 'old' Kanger clearos just get overpowered by it.... dual coils or BVC is a safer bet.

I tend to use 3 tanks "on the go" most of the time. One for tobacco, fruit, sweet.

..ooh, got to go. :)

Once you get into higher end juice delivery devices you will be able to take them apart to wash all surfaces and refill with any new flavors. Then you can learn how to build your own coils for them which will save money. If you don't have a vv/vw battery yet that would be what you want to upgrade to. The ce4 is pretty much an overpriced disposable. When looking at new equip I always price the coils to go with it and check how easy or even if they are able to be rebuilt. You tube can be a big help when new and learning.

One of the best ways to keep costs down is to use liquid that doesn't leave as much gunk on the coils, increasing their life regardless of the topper you use. Liquids that are clear and with minimal color work best. Sweetened liquids and darker tinted liquids will cause you to clean and replace coils much more frequently.

Certain name brand CE4's are much more consistent, and can last for a couple weeks (or around 30ml) with a lighter liquid. Kanger is the best brand I have gotten lately for my wife, who enjoys their size and simplicity. If you'd like to stick to that style with replaceable heads, those are normally referred to as CE5.

Good luck finding your sweet spot and congratulations on making the switch!

My first setup (after Blu):
Vivi Nova - decent vapor, but warm (top coil)
Protank2 - pretty durable, nice slim design for egos, reasonably cheap replacement coils, decent vape
Evod - slick look on ego, cheap, decent vape
coil heads - 1..6 ohm - fast to heatup, so less powered primer puffs required
Vision 900mah spinner - nice to beable to adjust the power
Joyetech 1100mah passthrough - nice to charge on the go with cellphone charger (not recommended)
That was over a year ago.
These days I recommend people start with an MVP2 or something like the iStick. costs about the same as 2 egos, and is a bit future proof. I'm not sure how the iSticks stand up to a beating, but I've heard of people running over their mvp2 with a car and it still working. The size of the MVP2 is usually a turn off though. With veriable voltage / variable wattage you want to start at lower power and work your way up, taking a few sample puffs at each "stop" to see how it performs. Once you start to tasted burnt flavor, back it off.
As far as tanks, the Nautilus or Nautilus mini both take the BVC coil heads, which reportedly can last several weeks to a month or more, though they arent as cheap as their bdc heads.
If you just want a replacement tank for your ego batteries, I'd say pro tank 2 is still a decent performer for the cost. There is obviously better out there, but for $20 and about $1 per coil head you will probably be happier with a reasonable price and much better vape than ce4s.

With any Clearomizer you should dryburn your coil occasionally. There are several videos on youtube of how to do that. That cleans the gunk off the coil and allows the head to last longer. You can also soak the heads/tank in alcohol to help eat off some of that gunk, but be sure you rinse it really well and dry burn before loading it with juice.
The kanger heads for the protank2 seemed to last me a few weeks. I kept 2 or 3 tanks on hand loaded with different flavors. Thicker or darker liquids will cause your coils to gunk up quicker.
If you plan on sticking with this you will likely get better satisfaction out of a more "advanced" setup. Something like the iStick and a good clearomizer will go along way in helping you stay off the cigarettes. I'm not trying to tell you what you can afford, just making suggestions :)
Welcome to the forum, and best of luck to you with stay off cigarettes!
