having copd i had to quit smoking, ive tried everything and nothing worked ..chantix was my last option..

my doc gave it to me, and after 3 days i had to stop taking it due to horrid nightmares, feeling depressed, feeling as if i could off myself and hurt myself..chantix was the worst thing that ever happend to me..

thanking my goddess that i found ecigs..

im smoke free since dec 2nd..

Good for you! I'm glad you were able to identify that something was wrong and stopped taking it. Depression is not something to fool around with. Some people normally experience it along with quitting smoking and adding that drug in some people has drastic results. That drug is a very bad thing for some peope.

Good for you! I'm glad you were able to identify that something was wrong and stopped taking it. Depression is not something to fool around with. Some people normally experience it along with quitting smoking and adding that drug in some people has drastic results. That drug is a very bad thing for some peope.

my hubby said i woke up at nite sleep walking ..he would hear me screaming out in the middle of the night, etc..my hubby hid all the knives in the kitchen lol, bless his soul...

that chantix did terrible things to me..i felt different ,not myself, it was so scary for me..scary for my family to..

i flushed those horrid pills down the toilet lol

Since I was also ......ed enough to spend $250 on chantix, I feel the need to speak up about it.

Basically, I can say, "ditto."

Headaches, sleeplessness, nightmares, impulsiveness, temper, etc. The whole deal. I stopped taking it after just a few days, and had a moral dillemna at that point.

Do I dump it down the drain ? I can't do that, it'll poison the water supply.

Do I dump it in the garbage ? If I do that, it'll end up in the landfill, which will probably eventually end up in the water supply.

I'm a psych nurse and considered using chantix til I read the possible and common side effects8-o I would NEVER recommend this to anyone Especially if they had any type of depression etc in their history It can be a dangerous drug, especially if no tells them about the possible dangerous side effects O.K. off the soap box

I never made the connection before reading these forums a few months ago, but my husband took Chantix a couple of years ago. He turned into someone I didn't know. Terrible temper, moody, crabby...I thought it was just the lack of nicotine & stress. Finally, I told him to just start smoking again! Little did I know it was that wonderful, FDA-approved medication.

What good is something that you have to keep taking, that is so expensive, ineffective and casues such a negative reaction in so many people?

I definitely don't understand the praises coming from people who have taken it, yet are back to smoking or vaping. To me, "works" means that you're off cigarettes for good!

My husband and I both tried Chantix. He started a couple weeks before me. I researched the internet for two weeks and confronted him about the side effects. I told him we had a 50/50 chance of killing each other.

The drug was so bad that he quit smoking just so he didn't have to take the drug anymore. That worked and nobody had to die.

I have 6 friends that tried Chantix. All were able to quit as long as they were taking the drug. Everyone returned to smoking shortly after stopping the chantix. Luckily none of them had any adverse effects to the drug. I can't believe that drug is still on the market and being peddled by doctors.

I agree...and the FDA says that ecigs are bad???? Wheres the logic, go figure.

To the FDA "works" means people will buy it thinking they'll be able to quit by paying big money to Big Pharma who paid big money to the FDA

Yes chantix works, it also made me miserable and from the very second i went off it after 3 long months all i did is want to smoke. Even that foul smell that comes off people who just smoked smelled good.

I quit smoking the very day my 510 came in the mail and now find tobacco smells disgusting and have zero desire to ever go back.

%#!* chantix i will never touch that garbage again as long as i live.

btw, how many confimed deaths are they up to at this point? 90??? 100???

I tried Chantix about a year ago. I didn't have any nausea that so many have had, but I did have really freaky, scary, crazy, VIVID, unpleasant dreams. (I would have been OK with that if I could have quit though). Unfortunately, the Chantix also seemed to increase feelings of anxiety (I struggle with some mild anxiety issues in general). Had panic attacks while on it (which I had NOT had for years prior). Also made me feel kind of angry and violent, wanted to start a fight, punch somebody (and that's NOT like me!) I DID manage to quit for about 2 or 3 weeks but I was crying everyday, miserable, angry, anxious. One day my husband came homeand I was, literally curled up on the floor in a fetal position crying hysterically and could NOT for the life of me explain why I was upset/what I was so upset about. He actually asked me to PLEASE go buy a pack of cigarettes. I hadn't, seriously, tried to quit since, but then I got my e-cig and quitting just kind of happened........And without all the stress!!!

Chantix may work for some, but for me, I think it just made me slightly psychotic!!!!!

Not defending it, but my doctor said you have to have an honest desire to quit. But yes, I do remember reporting to friends how sh..ty I felt on it, now that I think about it. That's the Chantix 'magic' I told myself, make you feel so sh..ty you can't stomach another cig.

I should add that I am not a proud or self-righteous smoker/vaper/nic addict. It's a vice I wish I could do without.

I think that is the end goal for chantix....after awhile it makes you sick when you smoke. So, a lot of people quit, then quit the pill, but the initial addiction is still unaddressed.

Not an insult at you...basically, chantix is to smoking what methadone is to .......

They're both killers.

Thats the biggest load of bull I have ever heard in my life. Chantix is what it is, but methadone is controlled by the government to have "control" over addicts. It acts like a sort of "legal" addiction, as all addicts look forward to their monthly fix and cant get past it. They use it to get HIGH! How can you compare that to a quit smoking drug? Chantix is for people who make a consicious effort to do so. How is that similar at ALL?

And yes, chantix may be iffy, but my grandmother smoked 40 years and she now no longer smokes, aside from expressing some weird lucid dreams she was fine. Which is assbackwards from methadone and I don't even see how you can use that as a comparison. Most people I have ever known stayed on it to get their fix while buying street drugs to remain high. Very misinformed is what you are.
