Feeling better now (didn't mean to bring anyone down) Nothing wrong with remembering ones you loved.
In spite of all the anti-vaping propaganda, many see vaping as the the best way to quit smoking (I agree... patches helped but didn't quite work for me) Happy Thanksgiving everyone... Peace out, vape on!

My dentist tried to prescribe Chantix to me to help me quit smoking years ago. After doing some research, it scared the .... out of me and I politely refused.

Might be that certain personalities are predisposed to taking their lives when using mood enhancing drugs like Xanax, Zoloft, Chantix, etc...but the fact remains that many that have committed suicide might still be alive if they had never taken them.

My condolences to the OP.

I doubt that the Chantix is to blame. She was no doubt close to the edge in any case. You should put the responsibility where it belongs, on her.

But what's bad for the other smoking-cessation products is good for us right?
It is a black box warning.

You mean there's a notice on the packaging? If only they had warned us! Oh wait, they did. But we're still indignant!
Just for some additional information:

Chantix was FDA approved in 2006, came under fire for adverse effects in 2007, and got an FDA 'black box' warning in 2009. In 2011 a study of over 3000 reports of suicidal behavior and depression in people taking Zyban, Chantix, or nicotine replacement therapy between 1998 and 2010 (reported to the FDAs own "Adverse Event Reporting System"), showed that 90 percent of those reports were linked to Chantix (even though it was only approved for last half of the reporting period), and of the reports of completed suicides, 92% were associated with Chantix.

In 2013, The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) released a report that analyzed Adverse Drug Event reports and showed that Chantix had three times the number of reports of suicidal, self-harm, or homicidal thoughts as the next highest therapeutic drug during the seven years since Chantix had been on the market.

Nonetheless, and with other independent groups requesting stronger warnings for Chantix, in late 2016 the FDA removed the black box warning following a trial supported by Phizer (makers of Chantix) and GlaxoSmithKline (makers of Zyban/bupropion, also included in the trial) that confirmed the safety of the drug (despite many critics of the trial).

Yes! Unfortunately that warning is mostly on dr and pharmacist literature. But there were warnings on commercials.

What a peculiar society we live in, that a product can be a declared a suicide risk, yet doctors, governments, and health advocates will gleefully promote it over something like vaping. And that people exist who will willingly take it.

My deepest condolences to you. I was prescribed Chantix, I am normally a very laid back, well grounded person, no issues. That is until I started taking Chantix, I was hallucinating, woke up in the middle of the night in cold sweats from extremely intense dreams. I've always had somewhat of a temper but on this .... it was scary, even to me, and before I did something stupid and hurt my wife or kids, or possibly myself I quit talking it and started smoking again. Stay strong

I hate the stupid commercial with the turkey. Also, they make it sound like some drug that was made specifically to help people quit smoking when it's really just another dangerous anti-depressant. They even admit you will still have to deal with the nicotine cravings. Honestly, many of the modern "meds" you see the ads on TV the side effects sound much worse than what it is supposed to help with. Another issue is how long should you stay on chantix? Long term use of anti-depressants can really mess you up. We are just human guinea pigs for big pharma. I know many people benefit from meds but don't just assume they are all safe and without serious risks. I might even suggest taking them but take less than suggested (I know, I'm going to get some crap for saying that but maybe it's time we take charge of our own bodies and minds) Don't be "sheeple"

I was almost a victim myself. Headed out for a smoke (yeah, didn't help me at all), sitting there all calm and happy and suddenly thought about taking my life. Only thing it could be was that med. Quit immediately.
Mind was so warped by then, couldn't find them. Had kept moving them so I wouldn't forget to take them. Found some yrs later in a drawer somewhere.
    Take care buddy.
