Hi I'm Michael Boyette. My Aunt just committed suicide. Chantix is the reason why she was able to complete this horrific act upon herself. I am left to clean up the mess. Do not take Chantix.
It is a black box warning.I doubt that the Chantix is to blame. She was no doubt close to the edge in any case. You should put the responsibility where it belongs, on her.
But what's bad for the other smoking-cessation products is good for us right?
You mean there's a notice on the packaging? If only they had warned us! Oh wait, they did. But we're still indignant! It is a black box warning.
Yes! Unfortunately that warning is mostly on dr and pharmacist literature. But there were warnings on commercials. You mean there's a notice on the packaging? If only they had warned us! Oh wait, they did. But we're still indignant!
Just for some additional information:You mean there's a notice on the packaging? If only they had warned us! Oh wait, they did. But we're still indignant!

Just for some additional information:
Chantix was FDA approved in 2006, came under fire for adverse effects in 2007, and got an FDA 'black box' warning in 2009. In 2011 a study of over 3000 reports of suicidal behavior and depression in people taking Zyban, Chantix, or nicotine replacement therapy between 1998 and 2010 (reported to the FDAs own "Adverse Event Reporting System"), showed that 90 percent of those reports were linked to Chantix (even though it was only approved for last half of the reporting period), and of the reports of completed suicides, 92% were associated with Chantix.
In 2013, The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) released a report that analyzed Adverse Drug Event reports and showed that Chantix had three times the number of reports of suicidal, self-harm, or homicidal thoughts as the next highest therapeutic drug during the seven years since Chantix had been on the market.
Nonetheless, and with other independent groups requesting stronger warnings for Chantix, in late 2016 the FDA removed the black box warning following a trial supported by Phizer (makers of Chantix) and GlaxoSmithKline (makers of Zyban/bupropion, also included in the trial) that confirmed the safety of the drug (despite many critics of the trial).
