Sounds dumb I guess, except if you were camping and wanted to stay in the tent because it was cold or raining.

Anyway, I would like to hear some experience charging ecig batts from a standalone car battery. How is it done? How long to charge? How many charges? How to re-charge standalone battery from my running car?

Thanks,
Dave

Many chargers have a DC input port; many of the suppliers carry the cords for them, or you can pickup a generic cord at Radio shack or Frys.

What really works great for this is one of the small automotive booster battery packs that have a cigarette lighter port. I use one of these when camping to charge cell phones. You could also get a corded lighter port that has clips for connecting directly to a battery.

My 510 wall charger is marked that it will accept 12-24VDC.

Here's a link for a high end booster pack... has DC/AC, and a USB port.

Oh! I have one of these! I even remember mentioning to my partner when I got it that we could charge cell phones and things from it if necessary.

We went camping earlier this month, and I didn't even think of it. I just used a Kensington type portable battery from APC and both of my PCC's plus took all of my e-cig batteries totally charged. I did fine. Had it been for more than 4 days, I was set to go to the car to use it to recharge for portable battery.

I'll remember the battery booster pack next time.

Hate to be a pain...but your post isn't clear as to whether or not you have any actual experience using the booster pack. If so, how many charges of 510 batts (or other ecig batt) did you get without charging the booster pack?

Thanks,
Dave

Sorry Dave, I haven't actually tried it yet with e-cig batteries (no camping trip this year). I have used booster packs as a power source in a small camping trailer I built for powering lights and cell phone/iPod chargers. For this, my booster pack would typically last 3-4 days, after which I would recharge it in my truck. I can, however, make some very general/rough estimates for e-cig battery charging.

My Joye510 charger draws about 84mA when charging a dead battery with a 12V input, and it charges in about an hour. Using the Duracell Power Pack that I linked as an example, it carries a battery rated at 17Ah (amp-hour), so I would expect it to provide about 200 charges.

Again, this is a very rough estimate.
