I just received two Bloog 102mm auto batteries. I didn't bother to get a charger as I have an old 808 USB charger that looks similar to the one Bloog sells. It is pretty old though.

I tried charging one of the Bloog batteries with it. Normally it lights up red when charging, and starts flickering blue as charge fills, then steady blue when fully charged. With the Bloog battery, the charger lights up a steady purple (red/blue mix), and the battery's LED is steady on.

My charger spec says Output DC 4.2v .15a.

Does anyone know if this old charger should be working with this newer battery? Should I be worried? I unplugged it for now just in case.

General consensus is old charger (gen-1 aka. unregulated) could work with new battery (gen-2 aka. regulated) but without its charging "sign" (red to blue or whatever sign) so you have to guess if the battery is already charged or not. Usually it's OK since the new battery limit the maximum charge so it won't get overcharged. But it's a pain not having a visual cue.

So yeah, it's OK but it's probably better (visually) to get a new charger.

I have been wondering about compatibility as well. I have a couple V2 cigs chargers and want to know which 808 batteries it will be compatible with. Looking at v4l, SI and volt. Each site makes it sound like you are breaking the law or going to blow something up if you were to use anything but their charger. What is the deal?

Some of the USB 808 chargers output at 5.0V, some at 4.2V.

That said, between me and the lady we have four different brands of 808s and a 510 cig-a-like. I charge all of them off of V2 chargers and the PCC (even the 510 with an adapter). No probs yet. Granted, I tend to switch out batteries before they die, so I can't attest to whether or not its affected their charge.
