Charging AW IMR 18350 in cheapo Fasttech Charger

I have an xtar VP1 (bought from fasttech) coming in the mail, but with the current shipping delays, I might still be waiting a few weeks longer.

The only charger I have with me that can charge an 18350 is another charger I bought from fasttech (this one: https://www.fasttech.com/p/1351900). Being so cheap, I'm a little worried about safety/ruining my new AW IMR 18350s (I've used the charger once for UltraFire 18350s...no problems).

I have a brand new, battery-less, mod sitting here...should I wait until the XTAR comes or just go for it?

Personally I wouldn't use it except in an emergency.

That said it is PROBABLY ok if you watch it like a hawk. I just read some of the reviews on it and one said it did not cutoff when the battery was done. That is pretty scary to me.

I've used chargers like that for years. They charge a little slow but that is good for preserving battery life. Don't charge overnight or unattended and on something fireproof if you are concerned but it should be fine.

Good point Myrany, I think that's what I'm going to do...

As a rough guideline, would anyone know how long it takes to charge a new AW IMR 18350? Or is there a formula to calculate it if you know the mAh of the battery and the current output of the charger (in this case it states CURRENT OUTPUT - 0.5 A)?

I found the answer...

hours = mAh / mA
0.5A = 500mA
hours = 700mAh / 500mA
hours = 1.4
