Do you guys really stick to the procedure to charge it for 8 hours even if the light is green, vape for about 20 minutes and charge for an additional hour to break in the battery? Is this protocol really necessary?

No, that is obsolete info. The old nickel-cadmium batteries needed a long initial charge, and it was advised that you completely discharge them before recharging.

E-cig batteries are lithium-ion. There is no advantage to charging them beyond when the green light comes on, and you can recharge them when they are not fully discharged.

So, once the green light comes on, vape away!

I was always told this:
Once charged according to manual that it ensures that each consecutive charge lasts longer. I could be wrong only because this is what I was told by somebody else so please forgive me if it turns out to be false. I do it each and every time I get a new battery, it hasn't let me down yet. Although it is my choice of e-cigarette hands down-and the most reasonably priced as well. Happy vaping! Chow 4 now

Lithium batteries have two important voltages. The max charge voltage based on what type of lithium battery is used, and what we call the cut off voltage, that is the minimum voltage allowed to avoid damage to the battery. These new batteries do not benefit from over charging. Actually the battery charger senses when the battery has reached its max voltage then stops charging. Hence the green light. You can leave the charger hooked up to it for a week and it will got no better charge than one that was taken off as soon as the green light comes on! If it makes you feel better then leave it on the charger. Its not going to hurt anything, but its not going to help!
