Sorry if this has already been covered somewhere else but i couldn't find it. But i'm wondering how reliable the charger for the cloupor dna 30 box mod is. I've heard that the green light never shows up but i'm guessing that might be just because of the 500ma charger and the fact that people use 2600mah batteries in them, so the charge time has to be pretty long. But other then that i haven't seen it really stated anywhere that it has over charge protection.

So, does anyone have one of these mods and use the charger on the mod for charging sony vtc5 batteries? A quick response would be awesome since i get mine tomorrow ; )

Thanks in advance

I own the DNA 30 (Cloupor). Charging with the cable works fine. However, the green LED does not turn on, regardless of which battery is used. I have charged both VTC4's and VTC5's. No matter how long I leave them on the charger, the LED never goes from red to green. I generally wait until the battery indicator is full, leave it on for an extra 30 minutes, then pop it off the charger.

I've had mine for 2 days now. I've run it with the passthru and it seems to charge up. I have no idea if it backs off once the batt is charged tho. I've switched the batts out a couple of times, just to keep a rotation going with the vtc5's. Great mod tho, you're going to like it. My Tugboat, Tobh and Patriot all love it at 30 watts. I've put some PT II's on it too, excellent vape at 7 watts.

Just rec'd my Cloupor DNA30 today, and it was in fact charging when I hit this thread ... so I checked it, charging light was still red, and the battery indicator reads full. I removed it the usb, and the battery still reads full, so it was done charging. So yeah, it doesn't appear that the light turns green when charging is complete, at least not on mine.

I also have a Cloupor 30w using VTC4's in it and no the charge light (if you can call it that - it's hard to see) never turns green. I plug it in every night when I go to bed and take it off charge when I get up in the morning. I rotate between 2 VTC4's. In use a week then out of use a week. Yes, it does have charge protection built into the chip.

I wanted to update/correct my last post ... On my first couple of charges, I would detach the usb when the battery indicator looked full, and the light was still red. However, it appears that even when the battery indicator "appears" full, that the battery is not necessarily done charging. I have since discovered that Yes, the charging indicator light (which is hard to see while charging) does in fact turn green when charging is done, and it will also eventually shut off when done.

So it turns green and then shuts off? I never see it turn green since I charge it while I sleep. I'm gonna have to sit and stare at it while it charges to see this glorious green light.

I would rather plug it in the wall, but don't know what adaptor to use. I have a few ipad/iphone charger blocks, but have heard varying reports on whether it is a good vs bad idea. Anyone have any advice on best way to plug it directly into the wall? I will just charge my batteries in my XTAR VP1 and swap them until I find out a trustworthy way with the USB besides using my computer.

I have the 3rd version that was a replacement for the 2v that died on me. I leave mine plugged in often using and iphone block and the green light has yet to show up. I am using a efest 3100mah 20amp in the device, so expect it takes a while to charge and it's possible I never fully charged it, but I doubt that's the case. So either the 500ma charging board doesn't like the battery or my green light doesn't work and maybe that was another bug they worked out since I got mine a couple weeks ago.

There could be multiple reasons for the mod to never go green once the charge is complete.
The most obvious that stands out to me is that they either didn't use a multicolor LED and/or it simply doesn't because it's not an Evolve DNA chip.

This doesn't make it any better or any worse, as long as you can tell your battery level via the on-screen oled it really doesn't matter. In the electronics worlds things get cloned just as much as here in the vaping community, not everything is always clone exactly the same as the original. One of the ways they usually save money is to use different typically less expensive components on the boards.

I have a couple of wall warts with different amp outputs, 0.5amp, 1 amp, 2amps, and 3amps.

As I understand it, it's fine to use any of them because even though the 3amp wall wart can output 3amps, the charging circuit on the mod will only draw 0,5amps?? Am I correct, or dead wrong?

You can use any wall wart you want as long as:

A) It matches the device's charge voltage rate.
B) It supplies at a minimum the amount of amperage the device charges at, so in theory charing it with a 1amp or 100amp charger won't matter as long as the voltage is the same, the device will only pull the amount of amps it needs.

Things only really get dangerous when you supply a charger that doesn't have enough amps to the device and the charger starts to get hot, or of course when you try to charge a device on a wall charger that has a different voltage than the device requires.
