Charging through device nowadays?

I was watching some vape videos earlier,
And came across lost vape youtube channel one of the videos they showed they were charging the M200 centaurus through the device it self..
Also voopoo in the argus gt 2 manual they state to "please charge device with included cable"
So its OK to charge through devices now?
Because taking batteries in and out also wears out the socket maybe leaving them might be better?
Idk what you guys think and do?

I prefer charging outside of the mods, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I sometimes get lazy and just hook them up.

I've never had a problem with contacts, but I never "DROP" batteries into anything. I place them inside, holding {thing} sideways.

I have some pretty old mods and the battery sockets are fine.

If you are able to charge your batteries externally you should. It's a proper charge versus going through, and using, a mods electronics.

For me, at home an external charger is always nearby. There are actually two, one in my office and another in the living room ( ).

To answer your question, in a pinch, sure you can charge a battery in a mod. I've done it (and it works ( )).
Charge it all the time like that? Nope, not for me anyways. It's up to you.

A rule of thumb for maximum safety and battery longetivity (in that order) is to use external charging devices that are specialize in charging batteries. A rule of thumb for maximum bettery longetivity and safety is to charge at lower currents (usually lowest is 0.5A). A good external charger will allow you to change the current at which your battery charges and has circuits for making sure the charging happens safely.

Most of my mods are tube and SBS mods that don't really have battery sockets to wear out and the springs are very robust. Their battery compartments should last longer than me. So I couldn't help you there.

That said, I do charge one of my single-battery mods via USB-C and have had few issues. I'm also planning on getting more devices with USB charging because it is more convenient.

Ah ok since im always home i always use external charger but i though since alot of companies say it has balance charging etc thought it be ok to leave them in and act like its internal :p
Ive also read that charging through device can actually hurt the board?
So yeaa guess ill just keep using eternal then not a big deal tbh thought maybe battery slots will wear out or the doors ? But well see i guess

I tend to think that the higher currents at which the boards are charging the batteries and the heat will wear out the boards faster.

I am no fan of charging batteries via a mod. While it can be done - that does not mean the same as - it should be done.

Mooch does not recommend charging batteries via a mod. He recommends using an external charger.

FWIW, Mooch is The Expert when it comes to this.

Of the five mods I own one has an internal battery and its' own (internal) charger, and one (a Sir Lancelot mech) that uses a replaceable battery and there is no way to charge batteries for it other than to use an external charger. The other three are 'bi-chargeable' ;) but 99.9% of the time I just replace the used battery with a charged one.

I just noticed that my Armor mech, a regulated mech, also doesn't have its' own internal charger. I think I just noticed it now, or actually realized it, because I never really looked for a USB power/charge port..

    Actually the amperage/wattage of USB1,2&3 is 500ma.
USBC is a different animal. :)

The 'heat' produced by charging is peanuts compared to actually using the device. :)

Most 4bay chargers default to 2A charging for 2 batteries (2A per battery) and step down to 1A for 4 batteries.

Charging via USB is likely the safest for BOTH your batteries and mod.

IDK what MOD's you own, however most of mine ether have weak battery doors that could easily get worn out OR are a PITA to unscrew to replace the battery.

The ONLY mods I replace batteries in are ones that DON'T have USB charging OR the battery finally reached the end of its service life. (EST: 300-600 charge/discharge cycles)

I charge my batteries externally because a) i have invested in a good charger, b) i always have batteries in rotation, c) it's more convenient to swap batteries rather than have a device out of commission whilst it charges, d) i am not confident in the quality of built-in chargers, e) there is no wear to the devices ports, f) i can choose to charge the batteries to 95% capacity, g) charging externally means i visually check the batteries regularly.....
I only use the in-built charging option as an emergency battery boost when it's not possible to use a dedicated charger. Perhaps my view is old-fashioned and obsolete but i do remember the cowboy days of mods catching fire whilst being charged.

I can attest to the damage done to the charging ports by using a USB charger. I have one mod in rotation that has an internal battery, the innokin sensis. I'm on my third one because the other 2 will no longer charge because of damage done to the port. The third one has begun to have the same problem. I kept replacing it because I have a supply of coils for it, but now I'm going to forget about the coils and take the sensis out of rotation for good. Im tired of replacing it every few months. All my other mods have external batteries and I only charge them via the port in an emergency. I've had batteries go bad, but they can be replaced without tossing the whole setup. I've never had problems with battery doors, except those that had a design flaw in the battery door. On those, the door acts up from the beginning.

Here are the Facts . . . from the expert . . . Mooch

Internal vs. external charging, which is better?
<<< video is just under 12 minutes >>>

    The bottom line per Mooch:

    Neither method is the best.

What is best for one person ≠ best for another person.

Internal/external - - - each method has Pros and Cons.

There is nothing inherently superior in using either charge method.

Which charging method to use? It's comes down to personal preference and requirements.

    Mooch recommends External Charging.

    When charging using either method:

Rarely happens but any device can fail.
    Charge on a non-flammable surface.
Only when you are around and awake.

You should get yourself a magnetic USB port and cable to charge your mod. You leave the magnetic USB in the port permanently and the charging cable is magnetic so just clicks on when you need to charge. That way no damage will be done to the USB port on the chip of the mod. Here's one of my mods with one in, image.jpg and a few being charged with the magnetic cable, image.jpg

I actually thought about that when mod #3 started to fail. I may try that in the future.

I just ordered another Sensis from SM, and I ordered some of those magnetic charging cables.
