Hello all. First time to the SI board.

I have a quick question about charging an x2 900mah. Charging via usb seems to take upwards of a bazillion hours (rough estimate) to reach a full charge (plug in LED off). I was wondering if there would be any harm plugging the USB into my Nexus 7 wall charger which, if I recall correctly, runs at 5volts and 2 amps. I would hate to harm my x2 as I completely adore it.

Thanks for any information provided!

I know the X2's need a 1.5 amp charger to be used as a passthrough, I'm not overly sure if a charger that's a half an amp higher would do any damage or not... as near as I can tell from some research, my USB 3.0 ports (which are also 2amp) work fine for such a task. My X2 won't be in until tomorrow sometime, so I can't attest to the actual outcome though.

I'm pretty sure that most wall warts are going to be at least a 5v output as well though, so it really boils down to the amps. I'm sure someone else might have a better idea of how this all works, but for now, to at least offer you some peace of mind, I can say that the 5v isn't going to be an issue, and I really don't think the +0.5amp will do anything either (except maybe charge it a bit faster?)

After some more digging....

(Description of the 1.5amp usb charger that SI sells, from the FAQ sticky)

Volt - USB Wall Adapter 1.5A (1500mah)
Same VOLT quality USB wall adapter, at 3x the power!! Now available in 1.5A (1500mAh)! This wall adapter POWERS our USB PASSTHROUGH!

USB Wall Adapter:
Charger Logo: Volt
Input Voltage: 100 - 240 volts (AC)
Output Voltage: 5 volts (DC)
Charger Frequency: 50/60 Hz
Output Current: 1-1.5A
Length: 64 mm
Wall Charger Width: 58 mm

Passthrough:
Regulated 3.6 Volts
*Please keep in mind that the output has to be at least 1.5a (1500mA) in
order to get power to the passthrough!

(and from a few more posts down in the same thread)

What will power/charge my VOLT X2 battery passthrough?

any usb port/adapter will be fine to power and charge the X2. An adapter rated at 1.5a or higher will ensure you do not outpace the charge when vaping while in passthrough mode, but the .5a/500mah regular VOLT wall adapter will allow you to charge and use the passthrough option as well. - Why is this different from the cigarette size passthough? - Well that passthrough has no actual battery in it and needs a power source to fire, but the X2 battery requires at least some battery charge to function as a passthrough. The X2 will charge faster without being used as a passthrough at the same time. You must use the USB cable provided for the VOLT X2 to charge and for the passthough do NOT use the USB charger/dongle

Hope that helps you out and calms any fears you may have Irish! :toast:

Sitting down, facing forward.
I've monitored X2-650's extensively when charging them. They don't draw more than about 200ma from my observations. Anything over 500ma should be sufficient, but I always use SI 1.5amp adapters to charge all of my batteries, except for the 18350s and 18650s, of course. Lower current ratings can result in longer charge times, but with a bigger one you can't push in more than the battery regulators are designed to allow.

I would suggest caution if using a USB port...wall wart - a few bucks...PC or laptop USB bus - too many bucks!

There have been "bad experiences", just saying.

As someone that builds and fixes PCs for a living, I can't agree more. The wall wart is the way to go, definitely, but if you would rather have it "handier" for you at your desk, then I'd suggest a USB hub device, that is powered from a wall wart and placed on your desk. It has nothing to do with SI's batts, or anything like that, but I've personally seen one of those "usb coffee warmer plates" fry a comp's front usb.

Luckily, its an easy fix, but peace of mind is a better thing to have, in my opinion.
