If it's a genuine Patriot, I'd say the price is reasonable for a B&M. On line the Patriot is about $70 and the gold plated version is around $100, so a few bucks more in a shop isn't that out of line.

That being said, there are some good clones and some that have issues. Infinite, EHPro, and hcigar (just off the top of my head) make some pretty decent clones, and some are reportedly indistinguishable from the originals, and the parts in many cases are interchangeable with the genuine article.

As an alternative to clones (not that I'm trying to steer you away from them) take a look at some of the offerings from Youde Technology - their Igo line of RDAs has some real winners and the quality is pretty top-shelf.
I have a couple of Igo rda's. They are not flashy but solid and perform great.

The igo-w is like a patriot in its 3 post design.

I drilled the airholes in mine to 5/32 and the draw is perfect for me.

I paid $7.75 for it and its good quality. Way better than my $10 nimbus clone.

They just simply couldnt understand why I would spend so much money on thiss stuff but I can understand it they dont smoke and I dont think they realize that it actualy can become a fun hobby instead of just an alternitive to smoki g

Dunno if you're set on a dripping atty or not, but if not, you can't beat the Kayfun 3.1 at 101vape $16. Its a solid clone with great flavor and air flow. They're out of stock right now, but maybe theyll have more by the time you're ready. Once you buy, 101vape usually has it at your door in 2-3 days. There are better RTAs out there (only slightly better), but its the best value there is.
I would also 2nd the Sentinel M16 suggestion....cheap, solid, and hits hard. You can get a clone for under $20.

^^^^^^^^ this ^^^^^^^

Stepping into mechanical mods is more than just acquiring one!

A person must become their own safety protection. None is built into a mechanical mech.

This is important!
Why do people pretend mechs are some ticking time bomb that you need a degree to operate? It's a ....ing battery tube.

Op, get some decent battery's and you're good. The biggest thing with mechanicals is the switch. Make sure you get something with a nice switch.

i think cheap mods are worth it.....i paid over $100 for a gus telescopic back before clones became popular, it was awful, yeah one bad experience shouldn't turn someone off, but i basically said...it's not worth it to spend that type of money on vaping

now i have a few but not many clones and together they total about what i spent on the gus and they all perform way better

i'd recommend focalecig or angelcigs for cheap mods, i swore off ft on my last order that took 45 days...actually still waiting on part of that order over 50 days now

It's like driving a car, if you just step on it without knowing anything you can end up hurting yourself and other people but if you know what you're doing then it'll be an enjoyable ride[emoji6]

This thread is like a driving manual for mods **Sub-Ohm Vaping** Discussion, Safety, Battery Info, & Warnings

Great analogy!
Filling a car with gas is much more dangerous than vaping, however with a bit of knowledge, commom sense, and understanding its a pretty straight forward task that anyone can do.
It does require some instruction and you have to pay attention, but it's not rocket science.

The key to ordering mechs on FT is reading the reviews and, even moreso, the forums that discuss each particular model. There is a lot of pretty junk being sold at FT but there are some real gems too. FT keeps tabs on these discussions and will sometimes have the clone redesigned accordingly. Many clones offer improvements on the original design.

Therefore it's best to wait a while until the reviews roll in on a particular model or run. You don't want to be an early adapter and get stuck with lemon. You want to hang out for a while and snatch the v2 that clears up the design flaws of v1.

As always, don't set your expectations too high. For example, my brass stingray kicks except for a wobbly switch. At under $30, I'm not complaining. Next time I'll buy a mod with a recessed button for $20.

I have to admit I am kinda jumpin in head first without testing the temp of the water here, but I have just fallen in love with vaping soo much and want to learn everything there is to learn about it.
Best way to learn the ropes is get a decent VW mod like an MVP2 or Vamo. I prefer the Vamo since it goes up to 15W and is a breeze to use especially in 18350 mode. Get a good RBA (Kayfun, Fogger) along with it and you're golden.

The VW not only has protection built in. It hits very good, measures resistance, protects you from shorts, gives you consistent performance and most importantly it allows you to play around and explore different watt ranges as you vape.

Even when you have a mech and know what your favorite build i.e. watt ranges are, having a VW is still really good because it allows you to test your juices. Some juices you want to vape at lower ranges, while others taste better as you crank up the watts. This is easy to do on a VW. You press the button and up/down you go. Doing this on a mech means doing a new build every time. It's static.
So even if you want to use a mech in the end, a good VW device is still a really good investment and by far the best way to learn about vaping in general.

So it's always better to start things off on the VW, figure out what watt range and coil type you like best for your juices. Once you've homed in on your preferences you can just convert it all over to the 4.2 - 3.5v you're gonna get on your mech and it'll be good.
And since you've been building on the VW all along, you'll know exactly what to do when you start on a mech.

When you get a mech, however, make sure that you have high quality batteries (read: Sony VTC4/5 or Efest) and definitely have a multimeter or decent ohmreader. You must always check for shorts when you build on a mech. It has no protection and you need to be aware of that and do your homework to stay safe literally every single time you do a build on it.
