I usually check the ohms before adding the cotton. It can be checked at anytime really. If it's built correctly the readings should stay pretty consistant. The only time my ohms jump around alot is when I'm using SS mesh.

I'm using a vamo to check my ohms, so I would suspect a multimeter would be far more accurate so you may see more fluctuations. I really need to get a multimeter.

I've had my vamo on ohm meter duty since I got my Reo. Last night, I decided to check it against my Fluke 16. Wouldn't ya know it, the vamo reads .2 ohms low. So to get a coil to fire on it, it has to actually be 1.4 ohms.

Not cool vamo, not cool.
