just got my janty stick yesterday been using it ever since but i cant take a good hit without choking. and ive been smoking newports for over 5 years. mouth pull to inhale method. why cant i smoke my ecig without chokin?

Wife had that problem with the 510 - both are vapor machines but the Janty Stick even more. That lasted one day and she caught on. A slower draw into the mouth first, then inhale would help if you're used to lung inhaling a cigarette. Just a 'sip', into the mouth, inhale, etc. build it up to your regular draw. The Janty Stick is still more like a cigarette (as far as the process of 'smoking' goes) to me - my favorite relaxing vape.

Don't know what flavor you're using or nicotine level but if you have a vanilla or something not a tobacco flavor and not a real high nic level - that would help as well.

I let my sister-in-law try my devices this week when she was visiting. Regardless of the device she tried, she coughed and felt like the vapor was really hitting he throat hard. She did not mind the flavor, only that it made her cough. She is a weenie, anyway.

Apparently, this is normal for new vapers. If you do not get used to vaping in a week or so, you may never get accustomed to it. Vapor is a different compound than smoke. Whereas tobacco companies add chemicals to control throat discomfort, e-liquid producers do not. If you cannot stick with it, at least you tried.

im using 24 mg RY4(whatever the hell flavor that is came with the set) trying t take smaller hits and that does seem to help. but i notice that the back of my throat dries after each hit or something like that... thanks for the help. will post back tmorrow see how that works for me.

Ok. Janty's RY4 is actually a favorite of mine but I didn't love it at first and with this particular flavor - it has a smokey piney taste (not everyone gets that) could actually be part of the problem and the 24 mg is going to bite a bit as well. If you have another cart or if you got some other juice, you might want to switch. If not, it's recommended that you drink fluids - water will do, because the propylene glycol base is a humectant that tends to dry you out. So you might want to have a glass of water handy. Again if you can get some vanilla - a lot easier to take (of course unless you hate vanilla) would be a good juice to get and the one at Janty is a tasty one, imo. I find coconut can be a 'smoothing' flavor as well. And if you can get them in 16mg that might be better to start.

I'm going to take back what I said about it being better than the alternative until I figure out if I've got some allergy/sinus thing going on or it's the e-cig. I was up half the night with a nasty dry cough so bad my throat is sore (like muscle soreness) today.

Could trying VG instead of PG help? I've some VG juice from Vermont Vapor on the way.

also does anyone notice their stick never realy hitting the same twice in a row? sometimes its like wow lots of vapor and others its like ... what vapor?

Not to piggyback on your thread, but yeah that's happening to me too. I figured it was part of the learning curve, but not only is it not hitting the same twice in a row, the performance is starting to degenerate.

VG is vegetable glycerin and from all the posts I have read it is a great alternative (and produces more vapor coincidentally) than PG-propylene glycol. PG is what the majority of e-liquids seem to have as a base (with flavoring and nicotene). The majority of people seem to do ok on it even if they have an initial period of minor discomfort/adjusting. But then there are a few like me that have a allergy to it-causes pounding headache, heart palpitations, swelling in throat, disorientation, shakiness, etc. who would do WELL to switch to VG based e-liquids/"juices".
DIYflavorshack.com offers a few and are planning on carrying more-they are the best in my opinion and come highly recommended and I heard Vermont Vapor also carries VG based ones as well. However be careful! From what Dawn told me at DIY most flavored VG liquids have a small amt. of PG in them, therefore not truly PG free. Important to know if you are truly allergic. Let me know if you have any more ?'s

thanks for that information. i will definatly try diff flavors but for now i find taking small hits and inhaling and exhaling thru my nose removes the wanting to cough bit. slowly working on normal inhaling at the same time. (hell maybe that will help some others also)

Interesting fix with the nose exhale. Might help others. Glad the small hits are working. On the 'hits not consistent' note - a few things.... For consistent hits the atty must be wet. Some solve this by dripping directly on the 'bridge' (raised part covered with metal mesh in the atty chamber). When I top off a cart I'll put one or two drops on the bridge BUT only on manual (sealed) batteries. The other way is to have a full cart. If you refill a cart and 'power vape' - ie. take a lot of hits within a small time frame, then you're going to use the juice off of the top of the cart and there won't be enough time for the juice in the middle of the cart to wick upward. Sometimes if you wait just a bit between draws you'll get better consistency.

There is a modification to the cart that can be easily done that for a good majority of people here that have tried it is one mod that actually works well ;-) That is the straw mod:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/11421-cart-mod-better-refilling.html

While the original is using a double coffee straw, I find (and this is mentioned in that thread as well) that the shaft from Johnson and Johnson 'Safety Swabs' works better than anything I've tried - coffee stirrers single and double, tubes from aircans/wd-40. And I cut a smaller angle on the top so to miss any high bridges and place it along the rounded edge of the cart - furthest away from the bridge, then 'tuck' the filler around the tube which just helps stray filler threads from getting stuck on the metal mesh.

The action as described in the thread not only helps you get more juice into the cart but imo, also helps in the wicking of the juice upward and that may also help with the inconsistency.

Another 'trick' is to put a couple of drops of Ecopure (VG)... I use 'Rich' flavor on each or every other topoff and that does produce some vapor over PG.

i think maybe its the flavor because my gf has an njoy npro (a POS imo its my old e cig) and the menthol carts for it dont make me cough at all.... but i can barely puff at my janty stick with the flue cured or ry4 flavors.... i am currently waiting on the different flavors to get in will see if that fixes my problems. gonna go find a small straw to use for straw mod also. but yeah not realy sure why exhaling thru nose helps but it does... still not very fun tho.

I would cough a lot when I first started to vape. I agree you need to get used to the liquid and how to actually inhale, its much different than a cigarette. I fell off the wagon over the summer and was smoking analogs alot, maybe pack and a half to two packs a day. When I picked up my pv's again I coughed alot until till I was able to get used to vaping again. Personally I have noticed I cough when I vape 24mg or higher so I don't know if you need lower mg's or what.
