Choosing long-lasting affordable battery (18650 and 18350) and APV amp limit... is it important

Hi everyone,

noob vaper here. I have had a vamo v5 for a bout a month and 4 batteries:

2 red efest nipple top 2000mah 18650
2 red efest nipple top 800mah 18350.

I am soon replacing my vamo and was a bit confused about amp limits on apvs and the right battery I should buy. If an apv has 3 amp limit, does that mean that is the highest it will ever fire? So that means any battery that is rated for 10 amps or lower should be fine for this device? Meaning, I dont need to buy a 30 amp battery?

Also, I am dabbling with rebuildables and I am not really interested in getting into sub-ohming (yet, it may cahnge :) ) and mostly do vaping on a regulated mod. I do have a clone nemesis but I dont really use it too much.

What are good long-lasting (meaning the charge lasts really long) and durable batteries I can buy for my needs? If I get a higher mah battery then will the charges really last longer? I really want to good battery, but dont want to buy a batter that may be overkill for what I need.

That's what a bit confusing to me as well, the whole nipple-top vs flat-top thing. When I bought the vamo, the manual did say it needed nipple-top. If you have the wrong type is there any way to get a flat-top to work with an apv that asks for nipple-tops or vice versa?

From what I was told- you can put a small magnet like the magnets in some of the switches on too of the positive side of the magnet to turn a flat top into a nipple top.
- again something I was told; i have never tried it. My Daily driver requires nipple top and my other mods can use either so I buy all nipple tops and swap them around this way I don't have to worry about nipples.

I always worry about nipples, my friend :)

Anyway, double entendre aside aren't magnets bad for batteries?

The real question is what Mod are you switching to, IE replacing the Vamo with?

Without that info no one knows what battery it takes.

If it is a regulated Mod you have the right batteries. If it is a Mechanical Mod you will need high Amp batteries, Sony VTC 4 or 5.

There is no device on the market right now that won't work with nipple top batteries.

I accidentally ordered samsung 3000 mah batteries for my e lvt that had the circuit protection on them. No big deal just remove the plastic and remove the circuit protector from the end of the battery. The higher the mah rating on a battery the longer it will last is my understanding. Other things contribute to battery life as well such as coil ohms, single or dual coil, how long of a draw your taking, how high or low of voltage or wattage your using when you vape. Everyones preference is different. My e vlt is the 15 watt one I see now they have came out with I think a 30 what mod. Wish I had known lol. Anyway I rarely go over 10 watts when vaping anyway.

Kangertech aerotank I buld 1.6 ohm coils and wick with cotton.
Evlt battery mod.

Please DO NOT put magnets on flat top batteries in an attempt to make them button top batteries. This is considered an UNSAFE battery practice and is NOT RECOMMENDED by ECF. Any suggestions of doing this gets the thread moved to the NOT ADVISABLE sub-forum.

Use the correct battery for the application that you are going to be using. Protected ICR (Li-ion) batteries are no longer recommended for use in any mod, either mechanical or regulated.

IMR or IMR/hybrid batteries (also called safe-chemistry, unprotected, high-drain, Li-Mn) are recommended for all mods regardless of the application. A list of these batteries are in the following link.

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?

Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries

Generally speaking, higher mAh batteries will last longer between charges, however some batteries with higher mAh are not high drain (the Panasonic (Orbtronic) NCR18650B 3400 mah and Panasonic (Orbtronic) NCR 18650A 3100 mah). These batteries are meant to be used in low drain applications like flashlights, not mods. There is more to choosing a battery than just picking one with the highest mah rating.

Somehow some people got the idea that using an ICR (Li-Ion) battery in a regulated mod is ok. They "may work", but are not the ideal battery to use. ICR batteries are not high drain. Regulated mods require a high drain battery like an IMR or IMR/hybrid for the buck boost circuitry to work optimally. So please use a high drain battery in your regulated mods if you want them to perform as the manufacturer designed them to.

Why High Drain Batteries?

The Kick needs a high drain IMR battery. RBA's need a high drain battery IMR battery.

So in other words: ICR batteries are obsolete for mod use. Use only IMR or IMR/hybrids. You only need to use a 30 amp battery if your application requires higher amps (building sub-ohm coils in an RBA).

Not really confusing at all

Any device being manufactured today can use Button Top batteries. Even if it states it take Flat Top you can use button top. The only thing that might happen when using button top is the battery cap may not screw on all the way.

If the device States it can only use Button Top batteries that is what you Have To Use.

As already noted "DO NOT" use any Magnets on a Flat Top to make it a button top.

The Vamo V5 can use either, even though it may state to use button top. I use button top 18650's and flat top 18350's with both my Vamo Mods.

I suspect they specify button top because the manufacturing process of the Vamo is not very good and on some units a flat top may not work.
