So anyway I started believing in Jesus and God again because I actually read the New Testament other than the Gospels and started attending a non-denominational Christian church that emphasizes Bible study and strict adherence to Jesus' teachings based on the Gospels and Letters. The greatest difference I notice is that the Christians I met at this Church are hardcore and really believe and try to live a Christian life - in contrast, the Catholics I've met throughout my life (went to Catholic schools for 12 years) at several Churches were lukewarm Christians who went to Church but didn't really follow Jesus' teachings in their daily lives and many of my Catholic friends have stopped going to church and several have become atheists. Also, I realized that the Catholic priests and teachers practically ignored the New Testament letters and the history of early Christianity, emphasizing Catholic tradition more than the Bible. It was really a shock for me how much Catholicism deviates from both Jesus' teachings (Jesus said to not call anyone Father except for God while Catholics refer to priests with the title, "Father") and the content of the Bible (there's nothing in the Bible that warrants worshipping Mary or Saints/The Letters specificailly prohibit forming doctrine outside of Jesus' teachings).
