Clapton build question

I know it's trial and error for the most part but anyone build a clapton coil using 26 as the core and the wrap?

It's the only size I have and the local shops don't keep anything diy.

I don't know how well that would work out using 26g for both. clapton is typically thicker gauge wire wrapped with thinner gauge. if you only have 26g then I would probably stick with doing some twisted coils. I use twisted coils all the time and work just great for me.

While I haven't done it, I'm pretty sure I've read about it. How many watts do you have at your disposal? Worst thing I can think of would be not having enough power to put through the coil. Twisted like JayPut mentioned might be easier using same gauge wire. When I make claptons, I prefer using 32g for the wrap. You can get some big spools of good Kanthal for about $6 from Temco, they sell on e-bay so if you look for the vendor Temco Industrial Power Supply you'll find all different gauge and spool sizes from them.

I'm using an evic mini so 75 watts.

I would say you can try it but don't be surprised if it's not enough power. I myself use 26g/32g SS316L coils at 5 wraps, 3mm ID and push 80 watts. The 75 might not be enough because of the thicker outer wire, so you might end up with a cool vape.

I've done it. Works fine. 6/5 or 5/4 wrap will put you in the .5 range or so...maybe less...goto your local BM and grab some 34 from them.

My local shops are terrified of anything diy. They think that it will kill their business so they don't keep diy supplies.

I would try online then, there is lots of online places that sells all the different wires and at cheap prices also.

I would just order thinner wire. It would probably work if you have enough power to throw at it, but then you might as well just build twisted.

Either way, online will be much cheaper, you can get about 250ft spool for around $10 shipped.

26/26 be a bit different maybe just twist it for better results

30/32 is ideal for wrapping

Lightning vapes also sells wire, good prices, and ship fast and they have pre-made clapton wire on rolls if you want to go that route.

Great recommendations all around. It's a Monday, so if you order some wire today or tomorrow you'll probably get it by the end of the week or next Monday. If you're new to Claptons, picking up some pre-made one might be a good idea as it can be a bit frustrating until you get the hang of it. I got my trick down and now can get them done easily and without mistakes.

^I agree with all of the above. 26 as wrap wire will take a long time to ramp up. I have had best experience with 34 gauge and above.
