That 20oz bottle method sounds awesome. I'll have to try that. I've had issues with my atty having a burnt flavor and I kinda wonder if it's from dry burning. Maybe I'll get a new atty and use the bottle method every week and lose the dry burns. Maybe I'll just dry burn for 1-2 seconds or so.

Hey SR20?,

Me too on the forced pressure method...gonna try it. But my first attempt at the dry burn "for 1-2 seconds" actually started the burnt flavor for me. Wasn't until I did a full, glowing element dry burn that I lost it. I believe the burnt flavor / smell is the fact there is still gunk on the element(s).

OK.....so I'm an 808 carto user, just switching over to Ego T....been using the fat bats with an adapter for the cartos.

I've had quite a week. First one tasted terrible after 1 glorious tank of Halo Bella....it must have been the TV Butter Rum....tried a couple other tanks of several light flavors...and got nothing but burning sinus, throat, lung, etc. Priming would help for 1 hit maybe.

Washed it with hot water, soaked in everclear, dry burned, etc....still horrible.....so I yanked the plate.....wick was too low when I looked for it, had to redo the wick, put mesh plug back (very difficult) and got it working again.....YEAH! As I had only run less than 5 tanks thru it, the coils looked good and I could see the glow around the plate easily when I got it back together. Now currently enjoying a tank of Torque. Whew!

Second atty has been used for about 10 tanks and started getting VERY HOT. Burning my finger if I touched it when I pressed the button. So I blew out and tried a dry burn as flavor was getting a little funky, too. I didn't want to risk and lot of crud build up on the coil. Did everclear soak and dry burned for a long time....no glow. Soaked in boiling hot water twice and then back in everclear soak to rinse. Dried with hair dryer and dry burned for a long time....no glow still. I hear the sizzle. First it was very faint and now it is getting louder, but still no glow (in the dark).

What could be the problem....IS IT STILL ALL GUNKED UP....after just 10 tanks? Been using mainly V4Life translucent flavors on this one, stayed away from TV stuff. I can't believe I still can't see a glow after about 50 10 sec dry burn button pushes.

I am asking for help as I never used attys before, just cartos.

THANKS

Mine seems to vape okay, but i too cannot see a glow when doing a dry burn and am not sure if I'm doing it enough or not. If I blow out all fluid, then start dry-hitting the atty with no tank on, taste changes quick, after a couple puffs it doesn't seem to have a flavor other than hot, but I never am able to see a glow, thought maybe it's the design of the needle and plate. I have V2 i think from cignot.

Like I said, vape is fine, could hit a little stronger, but it's better than a standard atty/cart, almost as good as straight dripping a 510 imho. I feel like I'm getting the experience, but confused by the glow thing...

Bones, what does your atty ohm out at? Mine is soaking right now, but when it dries I'll try to remember to check it. Maybe we got fairly high ohms and won't glow? But still vapes??

don't have a meter....

Just decided to yank the plate as the sizzle just got softer and softer and disappeared.

The coil is a black gunk mess and there are wick fibers stuck to it and burned? all black in it....I was able to separate it some of it....looks like charcoal. The coil is broken at one side of the coil pot....I guess this is a popped atty? The fibers still in the plate are very black and a little gunky. The wick is low in the needle, must have pulled down due to some stuck to the black gunk/coil mass...when I yanked it out.

This was a T atty that had about 4 tanks of halo juice and 6 tanks of all pg light liquids. I never could get a glow after multiple soakings. It was producing vapor but had little flavor and was getting a little tight to pull on. It was getting very very hot when I used it.

What did I do wrong. I will say that I never blew it out between tanks, but I did blow water and everclear out after the soakings.

Without knowing more, i'd guess it was actually defective. Maybe the coil was partially shorted, drawing too much current. It would heat up unevenly, maybe that would explain the lack of visible glow and the hot spot on the side (as long as it was unevenly hot). Finally overheated and burnt out?

I don't know, that's a bummer, these t-attys ain't cheap. If the ohms were much higher or lower than 2.2 I'd be concerned, just checked mine and it's 2.4, so it's fine (10% off). Maybe explains why i don't get super crazy vapor, but still doesn't explain my lack of glow, and now you have me worried. =)

Still having a burnt taste even after cleaning. I get 1 tank of awesome flavor, and every tank after that tastes like booty hole. Then if I go clean it again with the bottle method I get 1 more tank that tastes great and every tank after tastes burnt. What am I doing wrong? Maybe I just need to do some hardcore dry burns? Btw I have a Volcano Inferno-t, if that even makes a difference.

Could it be from using tap water? I could probably get a hold of some everclear or isopropyl alcohol. Would that be better?

It's possible... Water doesn't get rid of all the leftovers if you use sweetened juices, and tap water can leave behind some minerals... You should try this.

The Inferno-T is just an eGo-T with Volcano's name on it... Same beast :D

You should also take a peek at your wick, make sure it's in the right spot... Video here.

To speed up the process of getting rid of any burnt tastes after cleaning, I add a couple drops of liquid in the battery end hole. Blow it through. Add 2 more drops, then attach the battery.

If you can get in the habit of adding 2 drops in the battery hole with every new tank refill, you will eliminate getting and burnt tastes at all.

Today my ego t began tasting of this plastic stuff. I boiled the water, I soaked the atty, I blew from tank end till I'm blue in the face with battery attached and with out..

At beginning of dry burn heard the usual snap crackle pop for a few seconds.. And after half an hr blowing through this thing to dry it im not hearing anything of snap crackle pop... Never have seen the coil turn red. and it is producing no vapor at all.. Though on a good note the smell is gone..

Hoping I haven't killed it some how.. Especially since I sold my unopened spare to a freind today..

Any suggestions on getting it to work again??

Will stand it upright (with threads pointed up) overnight and update if that makes it come back. I'm fairly certain no water is left least none that will blow loose but there is always the chance..

If I did kill it I feel for work tomorrow..

Update (10 hrs later) no change still nothing. Will check with multimeter after work as suggested in other threads.

I'm still getting a burnt flavor. I'm fed up with it. I cleaned it with the bottle method and I'm now letting it soak in IPA. Afterward I'll blow it out and let it dry overnight. Hopefully there will be no burnt taste tomorrow. I'll do a few hardcore dry burns with the pass-through before I put a tank on it and maybe this will cure my burnt taste. I'll update tomorrow.

As I posted in another thread:
Wick adjustment is a careful science... Push too far and you cause flooding. You should watch Cignot's Wick adjustment video to get the gist of it. I also now remove my needle plate whenever I need to adjust the wick. It also allows for a much better cleaning, and I've actually used my Tankomizer for dripping with the needle plate removed... Too bad a drip tip doesn't fit :p

Zombienerd's PV Blog - Needle Plate Removal

If you pull your needle plate, you can clean your wick manually, and adjust it to prevent further burnt tastes.

You can also do your dry burns while your plate is removed, and see to make sure the coil is cleaned properly.

As always, avoid dark juices, or juices with more than 30% VG, as these will clog your atty, and burn, giving you that burnt taste again.

Oops, I just recently ordered a dark coffee juice that's 100% VG. It clogged last night and I cleaned it right away.

BTW, the IPA got rid of my burnt taste. And the Coffee Hazelnut from Blue Mist Vapor is awesome if you like coffee.

Maybe I'm neurotic, but I rotate my attys and end up giving them a hot water rinse about every 4 days (two days use, rinse, two days sitting while I use my other atty, repeat.) I did the same thing when I was using my 510 and my original attys lasted me over a year. If things seem really stuck I use ipa. Recently I bought and ultrasonic cleaner, and two cycles in there with just water leaves things clean as a whistle.

*edit* I do use some fairly dark juices, so more cleaning may be necessary.

I agree with you on the dark juices, but I've been using mostly clear, 100% VG juices since I got this thing and haven't had any problems. All with the same atty. But I have been cleaning mine about every 4 days with a syringe. I use an old hollow plug from one of my leftover 4081 cartridges with a hole cut in it to accommodate the threaded end of the atty. I gently "force?" hot water through it several times followed by just air. I've tried mixing in some of my older PG juices, but I get leaks sucking up into the mouthpiece if I use too much. Too afraid to dismantle this atty til I get a spare, even then probably won't do it til performance actually drops off. So far everything's good.

I'm the same way. I have a bunch, so I clean them every 2 days.

OP: Remember to put a couple of drops in the battery end and blow them through to prime the wick after you clean and refill your tanks.

Edit: Yipes, just realized how old this thread is, I see that's been said a few times already. :D

I've been using cozzcon's method for a while now and am able to get the primer out first time, every time. The key is to dunk and drip until the alcohol flows free in both directions. After that, blow it out and set in front of a PC fan for 24 hours or so (more if you don't need to use it right away).

Clean and happy vaping will follow :)
