Cleaning atty - how about gin?

I've been using my 510-T atty for a little over a week now, and I'm reading many different ways people clean them, from boiling to dry burning. I've read where some people recommend soaking the atty overnight in vodka. I don't normally keep vodka in the house, but I do have gin. I can't think of a particular reason why it wouldn't work as well as vodka. Any thoughts?

I have used gin to soak attys in overnight . I have also used Everclear . Worked pretty good. I'd suggest to have a few attys in rotation and start soaking daily or every other day . Easier to keep clean than to get clean. Once a good layer of crust develops on the coils , its very difficult to remove .
Can be done with dry burning but that risks popping the coil.

Good luck,
Russ

Gin can have various herbal and citrus flavors. I don't know if it would leave a flavor. I brew at home so I always have a handle of cheap vodka for filling air locks. I wouldn't use good stuff I want to drink to clean stuff.

I tried the ultrasonic jewelry cleaner for a Stardust, a Mini Vivi Nova and a bridgeless atomizer today. Used water and a glug of vodka and put them through several cycles. Everything got nice and clean except the Stardust. It still smelled like the coffee juice I had in there. I filled it with vodka and let it sit an hour, and now it smells fresh.
