I've read through most of this particular forum and there is no discussion per se on how to clean, what to clean with, what actually works on cleaning, what has killed the atty's etc. etc. Seems to be a lot of discussions on 501's and others, but not a lot on "da blu." I guess we are a minority on here, but hey, I really like my blu and planning on keeping it. Also, I'm not one to waste money and go out and buy something else just because of convience. With that in mind, what all has worked for some of ya'll as far as cleaning goes? On another thread, "da blu" master, hxj, and I have been discussing cleaning options. I looked inside the blu atty with a compound microscope and Holy Cow Batman, there was a lot of carbon stuff on the coils. If you ever grilled, you know soap and water will not take that stuff off. Those coils are really, REALLY thin. With that in mind, I'm not sold on the baking method. I tried that yesterday and got good results, but I don't think those coils are going to survive numerous hot/cool cycles. Then, you got to get the ash out. I've been thinking hydrogen peroxide, but I don't know. I've read about everclear, but heard yeng/yang on that. I'm lost. So, if any of the "brethren" here have a tried and true method, let's here it and spread the wealth!!!

I have been wondering the same thing. I know on Blu's site they say their atty's are self cleaning, but pretty sure that is false. and as you have said close inspection shows some heavy gunk build up. I have had my Blu for about a month now, and I love it (with some slight modding) but have yet to have a problem. Till today when one of my atty's just stopped working. I have not cleaned either of the two since I got them, and switch out for one to the other with each cart change. So after searching here for some help and getting a lot of ideas but none for Blu specifically, I am at a loss. I am guess I am gonna try the Crest mouth wash idea (since I have some already) and then a hot water soak. To see if I can bring it back to life. If so I will then up it under a scope and see if the gunk is gone. But right now I am hoping to just revive the thing. But would love to know how to get them truly clean.

Well, as I posted in the other thread where this was discussed, if you can find an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, that's the best way to go. It will literally just erase every bit of gunk built up on those coils in just a few minutes. Afterwards, soak in water an hour, rinse, dry in the sun/next to a heater (but not too hot!) or just air-dry inside if you don't have either of those options. I've cleaned my Blu and Volcano attys just fine with this thing, and it takes a couple hours from clean -> dry instead of a day or so. It cost about $30 when I bought it and came with cleaning solution.

Last Friday, I put two atty's in a Pyrex bowl and boiled the be-jesus out of it with water. Didn't look at them under the 'scope as I was at the house. Can't really say for sure if it cleaned them. Did they work better? Kind-of. But nothing earth shattering. The ultrasonic cleaner has my curiousity. Did you use the cleaning solution? What was in it? I'm just not competely sold on water and soap alone can get the baked on stuff off. It doesn't work on a grill that way or an oven.

Well, I just did the "burn" method on the coils and that really works, but at what cost to the atty's, I don't know. I just take a empty cart, start huffing on it until all the vape is gone. Then huff some more. Take the cart of quickly and see if you can see it glowing orange. Do that a couple of more times and blow it out. I used one of those cans of dust buster stuff. That will also instantly cool the coils, which would help get rid of the ashes, but also stresses out the atty's. I'll probably go ahead and buy a couple of more atty's here pretty soon for backup. I don't have it in me to try and go through the RMA way to possibly get a free atty. But, I've done this method twice, about once a week, and the one I was having trouble with now behaves as it did when I first got them. So, somewhere in that methodolgy, it's working. But, I have no idea if I've started the slow death march. If it works, then it works. Once the coil "pops", it's all over with and they won't work at all once that circuit is broken.
