I was just wondering whats the way to go about clean the cotton wick before using i heard boil it and i did for about 20min today let it dry and it hurts bad on my octopus but not alot of vapor. I use a 33vg blend and 2.8 ohms coil just wondering if im doing something wrong seems like everything i try just dont work

I boil for 30 minutes and then allow to dry overnight to get the moisture out. Make sure to prime it to prevent it from burning. With cotton you always have to maintain juice in it or well...nastiness.

Seriously, Boiling it should be fine. What device, what voltage?
A) You can thin the juice, although 33% VG should work.
B) What hurts? Huh?
C) Not a lot of vapor...what wire are you using to get 2.8 ohms? Are you re-wicking stock coils or making them? Do stock coils work OK for you at 2.8 ohms?
im using a zmax 28awg kanthal wire. also a 33%vg blend. i was using my octopus i recoiled it same wire 6 wraps and got 1.5 ohms. had to replace the cotton with silica cause it just seemed to taste bad and when i took the top off the cotton was still smoking kinda made me nervous.
Interesting, I just ordered a octopus and use cotton wick for everything. Will have to see how it goes, but to this point I have not had that issue.
For my wicks I soak them in clear booze for half a day or so then boil twice and air dry. It is just what I like to do. Also agree ^^ with Bman1959, great place to get lots of information.

Sounds like burnt cotton. Yuck! I assume you soaked the wicks with e-juice before firing the coil.
You have to use Ohm's law and the # of coils and figure out the total wattage. The 28 ga stuff is usually used for SLR vaping. SLR is really not for the inexperienced though (no offense) because they get dangerously close to a short condition, IMHO.
OTOH...1.5 ohms for a single coil is a bit hot for a single 3.7 battery (particularly when fresh at initial 4.2 volts) but I'm not sure about the 28 ga wire...so I do know it needs a lot of watts to heat the wire.

If one coil and you're burning cotton....all you can do is up the ohms a bit. Or change out the wire. Maybe try for 2.0 ohms and see what happens.

I also have an Octopus that I am interested in switching to cotton wick after I got a bad batch of silica that tastes horrible. AttyPops the reason for the name is because the pre-made coil that the Octo comes with features 8 strands of silica. While this hold a lot of juice, it is not really necessary and seems more gimmicky to me, I usually re-wrap with a couple strands of 2mm silica and 30awg Kanthal A-1, normally getting 1.5-1.7ohms for my Itaste MVP. My question was regarding the drying. Does it have to dry overnight? If I was in a hurry (as I am currently in a hurry to get this terrible silica out so I can go back to normal vaping) can I throw it in the microwave or something to speed up the drying process for the cotton?
Does anyone know what the "standard" gauge to use for building your own coils? I plan on using a cotton gauze wick and running it in an autoclave to sterilize first. Also, any ideas on the autoclave method and it's effect? It's a medical system used for sterilizing surgical instruments, gauze, cotton swabs, etc. I'm a veterinary technician, so i have daily access to one.
I have heard of folks using the microwave to help speed the drying so I think you would be okay.
Yeah......no matter how long you boil cotton it isn't going to stop the "OMFG what did I just put in my mouth" face that you get from a burning cotton wick. I'm not going to lie, I sterilize my cotton by buying cotton that says sterile on the bag. I mostly use Qtip heads because it's what I got and they work.....and it says sterile right on the box. I would definatly boil if I was using yarn or candle wick. Either you didn't get pure cotton and there is some type of plastic mixed with it or your dry burning your wick.
Autoclave would be awesome for sterilization purposes, just know that it won't remove any impurities in the cotton. That's fine if you're using the gauze, just don't try it with candle wick, or any other type that might have bleach or other chemicals added.
To dry your cotton, just press between some paper towels.

Cotton will expand a fair amount when wet, because of this the dry wick should fit somewhat loosely in the coil; otherwise the wick may be 'choked off' when wetted and it expands.
