After 2000 puffs there is a cleaning cycle. My first atomizer died after its first cleaning cycle and when I got a replacement the supplier said that they recommended removing the atomizer during the cleaning cycle. I assume that prevents it from going through the cleaning cycle. It seems conistent with advice on other pages not to overheat an atomizer, so why do they include a cleaning cycle at all? Is it known to kill (make cold) an atomizer?

well, basically the cleaning cycle heats up the atomizer and keeps it heated...whether it's sucking juice or has juice or not...which can be very bad. generally if you overheat a dry atomizer, you're likely to damage it.
that's why they suggest removing it if the cleaning cycle kicks in.

I haven't run into this yet but I dread it. What do you do, just immediately remove the battery? Won't it continue with the cleaning cycle when you screw it back in?
I'm with you Girlie, I've heard of it but how exactly do you know it's doing it? I'm kind of wondering if my manual 510 recently went through one because my atty suddenly tastes disgusting and was hurting my throat (and it wasn't dry).
Do all PVs do this? I know there is no way I had used it for 2,000 puffs since I only got this one a week ago and I switch batteries 3-4 times a day. There is no way one battery would have been used that much yet.

yeah, I drank 2 monsters earlier, I am screwed for a while. I am so enjoying my me time... the in-laws come in tomorrow... . . ....no alone time! they stay up way later than I (besides when all hyped up on energy drinks LOL I am going to HATE myself tomorrow)
but to stay on topic.... yeah I had no idea of a cleaning cycle and I am now paranoid.. I guess it will happen at the 2000th puff right ? it wont just be sitting on my counter and go off right? I won't miss it right?
The cleaning cycle looks alot like the dead battery flash on a 901. The LED light will flash alot, yet unlike the dead battery flash...the atomizer will get really hot to clean itself. It last about 20 seconds or so after every 200 puffs . Never timed it, i usually use the 20 seconds to get a SUPER HIT of nicotine
I was nervous too but you will see it. After you take a puff it will start blinking...a lot. I had enough time to think "ack what is happening?!?!" and "OH! cleaning!" then unscrew the battery. The atomizer still wasn't that hot.
I smoke a 901, so it blinks a lot when going through the cleaning cylce. I have just been unscrewing it when it starts. It continues to blink but after it stops I screw it back in and it works normal. I had another atomizer die on me yesterday so I don't know if it was natural or maybe I missed the flashing lights of a cleaning cycle. I had that atomizer for about 3 weeks before it died, but I'm not sure how long people usually expect them to last.
I avoid the cleaning cycles on my 901. I fried an atty while changing carts and the cycle kicked in.
im on same 901 atty 35 days,clean with grain alcohol(everclear weekly), and i vape during cleaning cycles..So i cannot confirm atty failures with cleaning cycles.
it was answered above, so yeah, watch for blinking, or watch for the LED light staying on (stuck switch) or anything like that, basically things it shouldn't be doing
i've heared that the cleaning cycle is a myth an infact is just a programing error.another good reason to go to a manual pv.
