I'd say you will know when the flavor goes south and the addy gets harder to pull on. In fact these indications probably mean you are way past time for a good cleaning...:2c:

I'm a moderate vaper and I clean about once every 3-5 days. I use vodka, about 15+ minutes soak. Afterwards I dipp it and blow it from either end, and repeat. Thats when you really see the gunk come out. Rinse with warm water, Dry with hair dry or 12 hours... vape on.

Read the following from Mistress Nomad the other day:

There are many methods to clean atomizers, and many work well. But here’s the one I use.

1. Blow out the atomizer thoroughly.
2. Drop it into a little cup of some kind, and fill with isopropyl alcohol until it’s submerged (70-91% – either is fine).
3. Let soak for 10 minutes or so.
4. Pick up the atty, threads down, and let the alcohol drain out the bottom. Dunk it in again, pick it up, and let it drain again – do that 3 or 4 more times.
5. Tap it out, and set to dry somewhere with good airflow overnight. I use a fan. Some people use their computer vents!
6. In the morning, the atty is bone-dry. So be sure to prime it well, with 5 or 6 drops of juice to start.

I do that twice a week. It looks like a lot of steps, but it really isn’t much trouble. Just drop it in the alcohol and go brush your teeth and get ready for bed, then spend 30 seconds letting it drain a few times, and set to dry. Easy peasy.

Isopropyl alcohol leaves absolutely no residue. You won’t vape the alcohol if you let it dry. You can just sniff the atty to tell if it’s dry – isopropyl alcohol has a pretty strong smell. If you’re worried, just fire the atty dry for a split second – not too long, or you may pop it. Even just a second of firing it will burn off the alcohol if there is any.

Hope that helps you out!

Good advice. After I soak I just blow out good til dry. Alcohol evaporates quickly. I prime and am back in biz in under 10 minutes.

lol... good to hear a vet's reassurance, Doots. I hear 91% IP Alcohol and atty in the same sentence, and I just go, "OK... I guess they know what they're talking about since they're all still alive..." ;)

If you have liquid left in a cart for example, or maybe a little down by the reservoir/bridge, how long is it ok to put it down for until you vape again, and should you re-drip before you then vape again? Can you let the atomizer lie overnight say with some liquid in it (maybe in a cart still) without it gunking up the coil, or is it better to always blow out the atomizer if you know you're not going to use it for a while?

Question--when you blow out the carto, which end do you blow? Thanks!

Hold the larger open end where the cartridge goes to your mouth and blow air through the threads. Hold a napkin or kleenex to the threaded end so you don't make a mess. If you don't do this, you'll spray juice everywhere and that's just not very fun. (Although it might be fun-ny...)

You can leave it all night if you want. It's not going to hurt anything as long as juice isn't leaking out. I park my eGo's on their noses (battery end down, mouthpiece up) all night and just vape away in the morning.

i never clean. cleaning makes atties weaken. its a waste of time and atties.

Cleaning is not going to weaken your attys. Atomizers as a whole aren't meant to last forever. That's why they're called "consumables." But basic, regular maintenance can help them last longer. It's just like changing the oil in your car.
