Rudedog that's what I was afraid of with the cerakote.. Scratching easily... May have to reconsider my sx350j choice
You can scratch it , it's on aluminum but cerakote is a ceramic paint that is developed and approved for military use, you simply cannot get a more durable coating, in any color.

I can do multiple colors, I've done it but this is how it works: prep a paint dad bake the first color. Then you lay on a stencel, spray and bake for a second time, then you cover what you just painted with the reverse of the first stencel, and spray again. so to sum that up your talking about $50 for the first color, around $20 for the stencils $50 for the second color but I would charge at least $75 bc I have to use the stencil. So at this point in the process your talking one application of stencils and two colors it looks like this:

This is only half done.

See where I'm going with this...

Here's an up close of the first time I ever used Tiffany blue cerakote, this is my personal mod that I run a minimum of 10ml /day thru, throw on the ground in my pocket w keys / tools, and generally treat like crap.
You can see there are scratches in it but they don't go there the cerakote and expose the aluminum pretty much ever.

Tom... I am not knocking you choice in coating... I have a cerakoted rifle that I abuse and its holding up fairly well.... So I was surprised to about the report of scratching... The tmod I have now is the pride of my mod collection and my future tmods will be right up there with it... But they will not be desk queens.. They will be dropped, shoved in bags/pockets, and any other trouble I can get them into

Looks like we treat mods the same....

I am gonna stick with my cerakote sniper grey for the sc350j

I know, no worries bro, I treat mine extremely harsh just bc I don't really care I can build another one or repaint it or whatever ya know, I originally built them to be durable as possible and when I decided to add color I chose cerakote bc it's simply as tough as color gets, it's not magic but there's nothing better, if there was I'd be using it. Same goes for the mods themselves, if there was something better to vape on I'd use it... thats why I use a tmod.

Boooom. So. Cerakote is the toughest paint made So to say? Before you get into chemical coatings or dipping ?m
Sorry. I don't mean to be irritating about this. Just uneducated. And I like knowing my stuff. Used to normally doing everything myself. Or paying. Someone for a proper process. And trying to always stay informed. I don't mean to be a A hole about. Just looking for info. Reading back I see how I can be taken offensively tho.

Not my intentions tho. At all.

The toughness of the tmods is what got my attention. I am rough on my mods that is why wood mods don't have a place with me. If the cerakote scratches easily I may just go for brushed on my sx350j

I agree on Wood Mods, they look real nice, but are in need of constant care & attention, too costly for a klutz like myself.

I own/owned 6 Wood Box squonkers, 3 regulated, 2 Booger (purposely misspelled) and one Red Sky, and three semi-mechanical (2 Red Sky, 1 Phid) , those do have wire for the negative post. My 3 regulated all crapped out due to liquid frying the chip, the three semi-mechs work fine and are used for Coffee, Dessert & Fruit Vapes which I enjoy at lower wattage settings, and are under Indefinite House-arrest.

My Natural Tobacco's are enjoyed on both Tmods and soon to own CH Dual 18650 Mech Mod, they are/ will be my daily use Mods regardless of weather or location. Currently I'm running one non-LP REO, with two other non-LPs in moth-balls since last November, nothing wrong with them and they got me hooked on squonking, I just enjoy the Tmods more, and may get a third by Labor Day, still thinking of that Battle-ship Grey, maybe add a spot of Dark Blue, for a slight tint.

I'm not all that well versed on coatings either. I pretty well trust anyone named Tom to gives us the best stuff we can find in the BF world.

Do you have any idea how beautiful that is? Belongs in MOMA! Kudos, Tom. Unbelievable.

If you wanna go stupid tough I can do rhino lining, it comes in black. It's kinda rubbery but mostly hard textured surface, nothing will go thru it but it adds to the size weight of the mod. The tolerances are super tight on my mods that's another reason I only use cerakote, it's very thin. Don't hesitate to ask bud, that's how we learn, I'm here to explain things, due to the custom nature of the projects I do a lot of explaining, no worries.

I can attest to how tough Rhino Lining is. This rig was Rhino'd from the firewall to the tailgate. Nothing could damage it, even a Hi-lift jack bouncing around in the back.

Sorry for posting twice ... Does anyone know if Dready can put a patina on an aluminum mod? Or does it have to be brass or copper (both of which weigh too much for me)?

I think Mark can do an alcohol ink patina on aluminum.

just to clarify im not knocking Toms work at all.but ill take a pic of the scratch im talking about on my sniper mod.my camera is junk so ill have to wait til the suns up b4 I can get a good pic.its right at the noon high left squonkhole and idk what scratched it but I had it in my pocket and when I got home and went to vape I was so bummed to see a scratch up through the cerecote.just my luck I guess, your work is awesome good Tom,especially considering the shape this mod was in when I sent it to you. just didn't want anyone to think I was bashin the mod guy!!!I mean im waitin on my 2nd one so you did good by me.

Seems like there was a thread some time ago about using Rhino lining on mods, lol. That thought has crossed my mind and before with conduit boxes, heh.
