The place mine turns black, is like half of the button. The half that goes into the mod when firing. But the upper part stays silver. Suggestions for that? Never dull too?

It's the oil and gunk from your hand going down into the hole in the cap that your button lives in/sticks up thru. You can take your button out and clean that hole in the cap, and the button, you'll be surprised at the junk you find in there

Loosen the nut on the positive screw and swing the brass bar out of the way....
