I LOVE LISTS!

What's the conventional wisdom now about quick charging batteries? Way back in the 70's (yeah, I'm an old fart) they advised trickle charging (500 mA)
for maximum battery life.

That was lead-acid (or maybe potatoes?) technology and these new cells charge safely based on their C rate. I'm comfortable charging at 1A for day-to-day use and would gladly step up to 2A for a quick boost if I didn't have the time.

If I were trying to keep the cell for 1000 cycles I'd charge at 500mA but I don't expect more than 200 cycles from mine.

I love my little Efest LUC 2-bay charger I bought a year ago. Little LED display to show charge rate and battery state, seems to charge everything to 4.2 and then maintain from that point. I've checked the cells with a multimeter and they come off the charger within 0.01V of what the charger is telling me, even halfway through the charge cycle. I don't have any way to actually check the charger and whether or not it's providing accurate amperage during charge.

ETA: I do like my old workhorse nitecore charger for my truck because it will auto-detect AA and AAA ni-cd cells and I love having that ability on the go. It doesn't have a cool LED display though, but who really cares for a truck-charger, right?

Potatoes! LOL no, we had NiCad back then.

??

How accurate do you need to be? It does the job reliably and well, or am i missing something?

T

If a charger is misconfigured and overcharges your cells consistently it will dramatically reduce the life of the cells. If it undercharges you're just going to have a little less time of use, ya know? Perfect to 4.2V +/- 0.01V is pretty damn consistent for a consumer charger, IMO.

ST. Get a Xtar VP4. Well made, easy to use, accurate, included car charger if that's important to you... I had a VP2, bought a VP4 then a second if that tells you anything:D
Great charger that is my other and the only reason I got the new one is I go through about 6-8 batteries a day .

I believe most commercial chargers for 18xxx & 26xxx cells are probably hafl orone amp for the 18's and 2a for the 26's, at lest thhats been the case for all the chargers I've ever used for these batteries. I charge 26650's @2a all the time and I never had trouble with it. but I'm not the most battery friendly guy around. The answer to your question i most ikey 1amp from most chargers for most cells.

I'm no expert but I believe charging at .5A will promote increased battery life versus higher charging rates. Personally, I charge at 1A because I'm impatient. I have VTC5s that are over a year old and still going strong after who knows how many 1A charges.

Ditto Doffy.
I charge all my batteries at 1A. The exception used to be 18350s that got 0.5A, but i used to stack those and no longer use them.

I have a Soshine charger at the moment and it charges 4 batteries at a time at 1A each channel, but the greater capacity of a 6 bay charger would be welcome if it could match that performance.

There is no reason the batteries could not be charged at 2A except i cannot find a charger to do it. Recommendations for battery life are to charge at 0.8C, which would be 2A for a 2500 mAh battery.
