I have a GGTS (#451) - I've had it for almost a year, but haven't really found the ideal V combo. I have 3.0 and 3.7 CR123As, a 3.7V AW 18650 2600mAh (which I got because there were a lot of folks saying that was pretty close to 5V. I find that the 6V and 7.4V are, of course, too hot for cartos. I have the i6 and i7 atties, but didn't realize they were only intended for the AFS, so the juice runs through the little hole after a couple of drops. I just haven't figured out the most satisfying way to use my GGTS! 3.7V is too low. 6V is too high. etc etc. I have a strong preference for my passthrough, and I hate that... that's why I bought the GGTS - to be able to still enjoy vaping away from the house.

So here's the question. Is there any way to approximate 5v vaping on the GGTS? And is there anything I can do with these i6 and i7 atties to make them usable?

Thanks :)

5V generates between 8-10 Watts, this is the power, the heat and warmth that most find so attractive about vaping at 5V. using a LR atty (roughly 1.5-1.7 Ω) w/ your AW 18650 will give you around 8 or 9 Watts. on the other end you can use your i7 atty or another very high resistance atty usually around 5.2-5.6 Ω w/ a 7.4V setup and achieve right around 10 Watts.

Yes, Its far and few with NiMH and Lifepo4, but it can happen.

You hear more bout Li-ion going boom.... and the risk is a lot higher .... but with any battery there is a risk.... Just because it says NiMH or Lifepo4 doesnt mean it cant happen...

A lot of it has to do with user error, using the wrong charger, charing it at wrong voltage, or just running them down to nothing....so a lot of times it could have been prevented...

I dont worry, I test my batterys every week with my meter, and I number them in pairs if I am stacking, and I charge them properly, and switch them out after so many months or so of use..... Just to prevent something from happening, or atleast bring down the percentage... lol

Well the best protection for me is the GG itself. The way it is made I don't really care if an explosion happens: I feel safe :p

@OP: I would suggest going 2x3V batteries for 6V and switch to High Voltage atties (like the 901HV - 4,3 Ohms atties). If that is too strong you can find higher resistance (Ohms) atties and experiment with it till you hit your sweet spot. My personal favorite atm is the above atty with two LifePOs at 6.4V total

Only thing I'd say about custom 5V batteries is they're only 400mAh about the same as a wee 10440,so expect it to last no more than 1.5 hours before recharging.

exactly, and holding voltage close to 5V with cells that small is not going to last long either. high voltage and low res attys depending on the battery setup, and a good battery setup at that, is going to simulate "5V" better and longer. if you were talking about a tube mod made for a single 14650 battery, okay, but you've got a mod built for an 18mm diameter battery, maximize it's potential. there are various external resistors available to drop the voltage, but switching attys can be just what you need, especially if the 5V vape you've been experiencing is really closer to an AW18650 with a 1.5 ohm atty than it is with stacking smaller, lower energy cells and a higher voltage atty. just my opinion, of course, but give it a shot before you go buying shrink wrapped mini batts for a GGTS.

I took both pieces of advice and ordered the LR atty and a couple of 5V bats. The 5v bats are great - haven't tested the longevity, but I'm not that worried about it because as long as I'm out and have both charged, it should be ok. Also, that LR atty is awesome. I returned to testing some stuff that has been ignored for over 6months because it wouldn't work with cartomizers. And those juices are great at 3.7V with the lr atty.

Much appreciation for the suggestions. Glad I asked. :D If anyone is interested, I'll test those batts and see how long they endure steady vaping and report back.

I have found that 5volt vaping is great, but I prefer a pass-thru (usb or wall) to achieve the 5volt vape.... There is many device that put out close to a 5 volt vape after resistance and everything comes into play..... Only some tho, I think it depends on the material used for contact points and the switch etc etc...

Like, I remember one of the Prodigy devices, put out 5 volts, even tho ya were vaping with 2x3v batterys...
