Who is this mythical subohm noob? I don't think that person actually exists, it's just some made-up target for "experienced" vapers to feel high and mighty.

How do these grab you?

i am under the impression that i need seperate batteries for sub ohm and standard 1ohm+ vaping.
i know that i need batteries with high drain amp limit for sub ohms such as https://www.fasttech.com/products/1372400 or aw imr 2000mah batteries
ive heard that i should get longer lasting batteries for standard ohm vaping or else the battery might blow out so im considering these https://www.fasttech.com/products/1341105

any input would help b4 i order thanks :]

i broke my ego battery a few months ago and im finally back in the vaping scene. i recently recieved my chentinel from fasttechand i also ordered an x8 carto tank(2.5 ohm), 1.5 ohm carto, and 1.1ohm v10 rda. i have been keeping up with general stuff like rebuilding but i really need help with the technical things.

first: what battery is most recommended for sub ohm vaping(trying to stay around .5 ohms and up)

second: how trustworthy are the chargers that come with the kits these days cuz i noticed how there was no overcharge protection or autoswitch in the descriptions

third:are 2.5-1ohm reistance fine for the 4.2-3.7v output of the mod

-thanks

I honestly have no idea how to measure the resistance.

Right now i'm using a 18650 ultrafire battery with a dual coil build using 2mm wicks folded 3 times with 30g kanthal a1 wire at a 3-4 wrap.

i need to fire it up once for 2-3 secs to get it heated first, then i start blowing clouds.

OP: Hey all, I love my iTaste but I kill this thing in about half a day. I use it on passthrough too but I have a feeling I will rifle through this battery's life span pretty quickly. I work from home and I chain vape all day long. Is there a battery you would recommend that is VV/VW that would last me all day long? I really do like VW/VV. Should I just buy another iTaste, or maybe the SVD? Is there something else out there that is better (lasts longer)? Thanks all!

Reply to above question: These are great for chain and sub-ohm vaping

Unfortunately they exist. Im constantly helping some of these kids get going down the right path when they start experimenting. They see a youtube video and go off half cocked with little to no information.

What I mean is, does this actually amount to dangerous behavior? I am starting to think that if you don't know what you are doing, you actually aren't that likely to get into a truly dangerous situation because you won't get subohm clouds, and you will have to actually stop and learn something.

What about this one? In the new members forum: =>=>=> http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/408507-quad-coil.html

Do scroll down to post 22: "Every thing I "know" about vaping I read or monkey see monkey do! I am a ...... when it comes to tools n stuff. " But thass ok - says he got past the ...... thing.

Seems to be a lot of monkey do chasing monkey see just because of these :censored: YouBoob videos.

Yea I think allot of them after some failure or getting some crappy results start asking questions. But nothing is fool proof because fools are so ingenious. ;-)

I find most people once you point them in the right direction are very willing to learn and go about things in a sane manner nobody wants to ruin equipment or get injured they just dont know any better.

I have a 26 year relationship with electronics, actually longer if you count elective classes in high school.

What the HECK are you guys trying to do other than kill yourselves?

No reason that I know to go sub ohm for performance, look to ohms law, its all there.

If you use 2 wraps of 32 gage kanthal, guess what you get high current and burn the crap out of your wick and it will taste disgusting, or be short lived before tasting disgusting. This is not opinion, but easy to figure out.
So at 2 wraps you have minimal coil to wick contact, the coil is going to burn crazy hot, and ruin your wick, your battery, and worst case, your vented battery and ruin your mod.

How to do it better.

If you look to the devices on the market, 1.8-2.0 ohm is "low resistance" so go with that as safe.

If you are going single coil use lower resistance (smaller) kanthal to make more wraps on your coil. This should create more coil to wick contact and give more vapor. I am pretty sure that 1.5 to 2 amps is the sweet spot for vaping anything higher is just burnt taste no matter the volume of vapor.

If you are doing a dual coil setup, use higher resistance wire. A rule of thumb two identical resistances in parallel effectively half themselves. If you build two 3 ohm coils and put them in parallel they will effectively be 1.5 ohms. Two coils at 1.5 ohms should give you enough wick to coil contact to fill a room with vapor.

Just my 2 cents.

If you don't understand electricity, it will bite you.

Vape on my brothers and sisters!
know it all...:glare:

I keep repeating this: what bothers me is new vapers. You guys who know what you're doing, fine, go out there and have a blast! There will always be people who push the envelope until the next risky thing comes out.

But just like there are adrenaline junkies, there are people who want to jump right into things without paying attention to the details. You all know at least one person you've tried to explain something to who got a glazed look in their eyes while mumbling, "Yeah, yeah, got it." Unfortunately, new members may pay more attention to a member who might have only a week or so more experience, because they are talking about cool stuff, not boring old charts and laws.

Don't mistake me for being altruistic. I believe in nature thinning the herd. What I'm concerned about is reckless behavior being used as an excuse to limited my access to the products that keep me off of tobacco.

The vast majority of that thread is scary. Read post #26 by the same self-admitted "......" - a 0.2 ohm quad coil.

I can agree there is a big difference in quads verses single or dual sub ohms. I enjoy playing around with sub ohm but quad coils and beyond just look like not much good IMO

Eh? Post #22 is not the OP. The OP is asking for direction and thankfully getting some, if it were some of the usual lot, he wouldn't be getting anything helpful other than "it's dangerous" ... which clearly he can watch dozens of youtube videos and find out it's not THAT dangerous.

You know you can dead-short good batteries and not actually end up in a dangerous situation right?

Only one of those fits the description, maybe, and to be honest it's pretty suspicious. The rest of those people are asking questions and informing themselves, problem?

Okay. I'm concerned about one dim bulb on the Christmas tree having an accident that might be blasted all over the news as another example of how dangerous e-cigarettes are. If it wasn't a hot button issue, where my ability to purchase products could be restricted, I couldn't care less. Why do you care?

Here's one of the memorable threads. New vapor just received a new mech mod from a vape shop. The salesman sells him an RBA to go with it which the salesman set up himself with sub ohm coil, probably not giving the kid any instruction or precautions. The kid doesn't know the resistance of the coil, doesn't own a multimeter and isn't sure what one is for. He starts the thread complaining about his setup no longer working. Mod and battery are "really hot" and he collapses two hot springs in a row. Then asks, "Did I do something wrong?"

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...26176-mechanical-mod-rba-safety-question.html

These are the vapors that I have concern about. I was initially pretty hard on the guy for getting an RBA and not doing any research on them and not owning a multimeter to check coil resistance. I was even harder on the saleman for selling the kid an already setup sub ohm RBA. Selling an RBA to an uneducated kid who is going to go right home and use it is negligence.

My point is there are more and more innocent noobs buying an RBA and expecting it to be as easy as a simple clearomizer to use. No one has told them these are generally meant for more experienced vapors who know what they are doing and have educated themselves to do it safely. (Or if there were people cautioning them, they are ignoring them.)

They see the You Tube videos like the chap earlier in this thread blowing clouds and they want to do the same. What no one has told them or they ignore it, you have to know what you are doing, and you have to have the right combination of vape gear, to do it safely. Very few have done any research on their own.

This is my issue with sub ohm vaping. Don't attempt it if you don't know the basics about the right gear and don't have a basic concept of ohm's law and how it applies to safe use with batteries. You vapors who know what you are doing...be my guest. But please warn new users of the potential for destroying their devices and possibly injuring themselves if they use the wrong setup.

I was criticized for being so hard on the kid and not helping him. I agree, but there's too much to learn in just a single post on a message board. So I created a blog post that has links to many important information resources for basic battery and mod safety, a multimeter tutorial, and RBA video tutorials to help get someone like that started in the right direction:

"Advice and Tips for Vapors Looking to Try Their First RBA"

posted everywhere i buy them -
"Do not short positive, and negative contacts"

Cant find the post but when people state they made a coil and were shooting for .4 ohm's but "hey i dont really know I didnt even check it", but next time im going for .2ohms)
Sooner or later it's gonna happen LOL

The thing is folks, a short is zero ohms. If the device has protection, it will probably catch it.

The mech thing...no protection without a fuse. And a fuse won't work with this sub-ohm stuff (that I know of at present). So you have to know what you are doing.

Hot mods, hot buttons, too hot vapor (particularly the 100% VG stuff) is an indication of a problem.

I'm vaping 30 ga kanthal A1 on an RBA at about 4.5 volts and a 2.0 ohm coil. Blowing clouds. This is on a regulated VV device (3 amp limit).

If you are heating stuff up other than a coil, or overheating a coil even, y'all are crazy.

EDIT: Some fuses may still work with some configs. Check amps and do the math.

The problem is not foolish people they have always been there and always will be. The problem is regulatory boards who decides whats best for you. Those are the people we need to confront not some kid tweaking his mod. That is just an excuse they will use to accomplish a hidden agenda.
