I have 24g Kanthal. I want to make a .4-.5 ohm coil to run on my sigelei 50w. Anyone care to share how many wraps i should do and what kind of drill bit size i should use considering i have a whole set.. Thanks
Wrap count and ID don't determine resistance. Only the wire gauge and length from terminal to terminal establish net resistance. The wrap count and ID are physical attributes effecting coil surface area - relative to wick exposure.

At a full 50 watts... 24 gauge might be a bit too thin (and hot) a wire, if you're building a single coil... and too thick (and cool) if it's a dual parallel build.

If it's to be a single 24 gauge coil at .4Ω (a 6 wrap on a 2mm (5/64") mandrel with 6mm (15/64") legs)... you may want to start out at 20 watts (HF - 221 mW/mm2) and work your way up until you hit on a "heat flux" value (coil radiant heat, or vape temperature) that you're comfortable with. At the full 50 watts, you'd have a heat flux of 552 mW/mm2... which is quite hot.

A quick explanation for general purpose coil building is that you want a build which is optimal for a particular wattage, or a wattage that suits a particular build. Your desirable attributes, in order of importance are heat flux balanced against maximum surface area with a low heat capacity value and minimal leg length.

A more detailed and complete explanation for obtaining the most from Steam Engine can be found in my SE User Guide... second sigline hyperlink below.

I am using a Ekami Tugboat (cheap as h*ll from China) clone. I am only running 1 coil now, wrapped it Saturday night and its AMAZING now. Using my Sigelei 50W.

I wrapped mine 6 times around a #0 precision Screwdriver (which I believe is 3mm), it is 0.6ohms. Heats up really quick and provides copious amounts of Vapor!! I hated this thing running it on Dual coils. Now that I went down to one the Airflow is spectacular it doesn't heat up and burn my lips! its great!!

Hope this helped yeah!! Oh Yeah, running my 50W at 37W.
