Been reading up on coil builds, and from what I can gather, 2 coils basically cuts the ohms in half, right? For example, if I build a dual coil set up using 32awg Kanthal, on a 5/64 drill bit, each coil having 10 wraps, each coil should come in at approx. 3.4 ohms. So those 2 coils should give me a 1.7ohm dual coil build, correct?

OK, so the next question is battery. Using a Patriot rda, Magneto mod with a Sony VTC4 18650 2000mAh battery, that set up would be no problem, right? What is the lowest ohms on a dual coil would you want to go with this? I would be perfectly safe going into the 1.3ohm range, correct?

The most current will flow when the battery is fully charged. The lower the coil resistance, the more current will flow. So we need to know what resistance corresponds to the maximum continuous current that the battery is rated for (30 amps,) on a fully charged battery, (4.21 volts.) That will be the lowest resistance coil we can use.

V = IxR
So R = V/I
V(max) = 4.21 volts
I (max) = 30 amps
R(min) = 4.21/30 = 0.143 ohms

Absolutely safe going into the 1.3 ohms range. Almost a factor of ten safe.

Maybe I am ready to go mech!! But at what point do you change the battery in a mechanical? I keep reading about batteries getting to low and thats not good. Can someone explain that to me?

Less than 0.2 ohms is still unsafe with a 30 amp battery. First off, you are pretty much maxing out its safe amp limit. These numbers aren't exact, and no one really knows what they mean in terms of safety. Always leave a buffer to keep yourself safe... I would not go below 0.4 ohms. What if your ohm reading is off by just a tenth or so? Let's say your coil isn't totally settled in its connection. However lots of reckless folks are pushing it every day. The choice is up to the user, just make sure you understand first so it actually is a choice.

You notice when your battery starts getting low. The vape gets weak. When you first start out with a mech, you should check the battery voltage every hour or so of vape time until you get a feel for what "less than 3.6 V" vapes like. Most people charge at that point, and it can be harmful to your batteries to go below 3 V, especially if you do it all the time.

I recommend sticking with your regulated mod and coils above 1 ohm for a while, it may be all you really need.

EDIT: I just want to clear up that I don't mean "reckless" in a necessarily bad way. I have no problem with risk-takers in any aspect of life, it just worries me when someone uninformed does not know the potential dangers of a situation and are just blindly following something they read about. Do not fear mechs and low ohms, just arm yourself with the inherent protection of knowledge and having a healthy respect of the unknown.

CloudZ, this is great information. Let me rephrase..... When I go mechanical, I actually have no intention of diving to far into sub ohms. My intention is to actually stick more in the range of 1.2ohm to 1.5ohm. Currently I am vaping on a MVP2.0 with a Patriot RDA. Actually just built my first dual coil set up and kept it at 2.0ohms. Which is exactly what I wanted at this point. Now with my basic understanding of how this all works, I plan on skipping another VV/VW and going to mechanical. At some point. Not for a bit though. Want to get a few more coils built under my belt. Here is my dual I just set up. It's basic, but that's what I want...... For now.
