Hello all,
Recently ordered a Magma rda clone from fasttech. I've never owned an RDA but the price was right and it had good reviews ; so I figured I'd see what the rave about RDA's is.
So basically I'm looking for tutorial builds or suggested coil builds for the Magma.

I'm using DNA30 Box VW box mod w/ Magma RDA clone
26 gauge & 28 gauge Kanthol wire
2mm silicia Wick
Ohm Resistance Tester

Should I be using a different gauge? Or perhaps a different kind of wicking? I picked the wicking up at a local vape shop for rather cheap, unsure of its quality.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

There should be plenty of videos on YouTube of people building microcoils on their Magmas...

I too have a fasttech Magma clone, it is a fantastic choice of RDA. The good thing about it is that you don't have to build dual coils, I have tried quite a few builds on mine and have found that I prefer it in single coil mode.

Current build (22AWG 7wraps 0.5ohm):

It is a nice RDA to build on, the post holes make it easy to mount your coil(s). To get the best flavour you should have your coil close to the airhole (obviously without touching the surrounding metal).

I would recommend cotton (cotton balls) instead of silica, but that is a personal preference.

There are also a lot of people on the forum that are raving about Cellucotton/Rayon as a wicking material. Some massive threads on it.
It is also dirt cheap, Sally's (I think that is what the shop over there is called) sell it. The only thing that stops me using it is that people state that it gives 'increased throat hit', which to me is slightly alarming and in no way a good thing.

I forgot to say this before, but your wire gauges are all good for building on the magma.

You should experiment with different builds to find out what suits your style of vaping. It is all part of the fun.

I agree 100% , no need to do a dual coil on the Magma , i use a single coil (larger diameter than usual ) 7/64th typical since it allows a larger wick , wicking is the key to getting a great vape with this one .

My favorite is Rayon through the coil snugly , then make sure you stick both ends of wick down into the bottom well . The wicking should resemble a big letter "U".

Its also critical to make sure both air holes are open , it's very easy to only have one open and the other blocked which will diminish the vape quality considerably.

That is good to know.
I am not sure what it is, but just the whole idea of using Rayon doesn't sit well with me. I watched the video of how it is made, know it is made from organic material, but something about it worries me.
Maybe I am just too comfortable with my cotton builds...

You should give Rayon a shot, flavor is way better than cotton IMO...

This is the one you want
Graham Cellucotton Beauty Coil 500ft 44060 | eBay

or the one with 44043 code on front. Make sure it says 100% rayon fibers. The box for the cotton looks the same:) The taste of your liquids will be much clearer/cleaner tasting:)

Try a parallel coil between 0.5 and 0.8 ohms with Japanese cotton
I've tried all kinds of coils in my Magma, singles, duals, micro's, nano's
various resistances, mind you all are awesome in a Magma, but to date the 0.7ohm parallel 28 ga build I have in right now beats everything else at least for me.

Rayon is awesome, wicks so much better than cotton. I wouldn't worry too much about safety; just look up how much pesticide is used on cotton crops.

Anyway, I'm still playing with builds on my Magma. Usually sitting around 0.8-1.3 ohms with 28 gauge or 30 gauge dual coils. The 30 gauge is really nice if you have a regulated mod - at 25-30 watts it heats up instantly and just throws the vapor, with enough flavor to chew on. 30 gauge gunks up like a mother on sweeter juices, though.
