Coil Help

First off if there is a specific Thread on rba's please link it. I could not find it for the life of me. YES, I even used the search. LOL. Ok so I have watched a ton of vids and read all sorts of stuff in ECF and felt I was ready for a rba. I got the AGA to practice till I get a better one. So first coil was beautiful, then I did again to higher ohms. Second coil gorgeous dry fire then added juice and I either have hotspot between positive or negative and wick. As I fiddle it just moves back and forth. Tip and or help...

I don't know the ga of wire I bought it so long ago and the SS mesh is 400x400.
First coil tested at 1.0 ohm
Second at 3.7

Check for conductivity between your wire mesh and the coil ends too with your multi-meter.

You mentioned it's gorgeous so I assume there's no shorts between coils. You may have shorts to the mesh itself, a common occurence if the mesh is not fully oxidized. I'm not a fan of oxidizing mesh anymore but if you have a mechanical MOD you can probably fix the hotspots by pulse firing. I don't have the link but search for "Petar K method". You'll see what's pulse-firing is all about. Hope this helps.

So update. At 4.4 Volts or lower and nice and wet wick there is no hot spot. I do know now that I liked the lower ohm coil better.

Yes there was no shorts. Being new to the RBA I guess there is some tinkering needed. Youtube video's are not enough.

Looks like your setup is good. It's probably not just wicking fast enough, e.g., e-liquid consistency. Vg is thicker than PG, lots of it will affect you wicking tremendously. Do some "Genesis Tilt" when you're using your gear and see what happens.

Yea its working much better using the "tilt." Tomorrow I will redo and make a lower ohm. The first one I did was much better. BTW 50/50 is what i have for juice now.

yea they take some tinkering. with a thicker juice one thing i see not mentioned enough is the grain of the mesh. when you look at the mesh you can see a slight woodgrain type grain and this should run top to bottom of the wick.
also 500 mesh rocks and seems to work better with just about everything

try to make the wick stiff but not totally solid, it should just barely fit the wick hole. any movement will keep creating uneven tension in the wire and recreating hotspots.

the drill bit method works wonders for building perfect coils, many videos on it.

keep trying and before you know it it will work out. its easy but def not simple.
