coil resistance and surface/liquid contact

wire/coil resistance question. when building coils, and shooting for say 2.0 ohm, or whatever, and using 32 gauge kanthal, with a 4/5 wrap, if you decrease the wire size diameter, with lower resistance, that will allow you more coils, which means more contact with the liquid. I have used 32 gauge kanthal, and with a 5/4 wrap get about 2 ohms. so if I use 30 gauge, I should be able to get more wire in the coil with the same resistance, 2 ohms with a 6/5 or a 7/6 wrap. am I doing the math right? as always thanks in advance.

Theoretically it's very possible to make a coil with the same resistance, but much much higher surface area.

You could make a 2 ohm 28ga coil with like 10 wraps probably (depending on wick diameter obviously) the problem in my experience going this route is the heat up time takes too long, even at higher voltages.

This is 30ga Kanthal A1. The coil is built around an 18 ga blunt tip needle. Once mounted the needle is extracted and a rolled cotton wick it threaded thru. I can tell you that it heats up immediately and the flavor / vapor are insane. The only problem is hotspot - the entire micro coil becomes one, long red glowing hotspot :). No problem :)

its like that question was calling out to you by name, Supe. Yeah, ↑ that is the way to do it.

BTW: OP, If you cut your wick diameter in half, you can use the same gauge as before, double the wraps, and get the same resistance.

Many wrapped coils are slow and lazy when the wraps are spaced normally. Wrapping them basically touching each other, like Super_X does makes an incredible difference. It becomes a firecracker. I vape super low Ωs, so I can't wrap as small a diameter as Supe does. I go midrange on the diameter, pack the wraps full contact, and add 1 wrap. Here's a 6 wrap of 26g hitting at about .7Ω

Thanks, have to say really "thanks". This thing is snapping and crackling like rice krispies and throwing out the vapor. You can learn so much here it is just crazy.

Your welcome bro :). Low Resistance is WAY overrated. A tiny bore coil with a lot of wraps, (high resistance) seems to performs much better than a 3 or 4, spread out wrap, (LR) large bore coil. Here's a link to a good thread on small bore coils. Although they are built on bottom feed RBA's (like in my pix) the principals are nearly identical for dripping atomizers. :)
