keep the coil....redo the wick....you probably have shorts in the wick. I oxidize the wick in halves. So roll the wick first and then torch half of the wick until it starts glowing orange and then continue for 20 seconds.....quench in water....do the other half....the same way. Dry out the wick with the torch or over a stove. Put some eliquid and do a couple of flame burns and you're done. Remember that and over oxidized wick is just as bad as and under oxidized wick. You don't have to quench the wick after torching it but quenching makes the wick hard...I like it that way.

I just reread your post again and the fact that your ohms reading went to 3ohms with a kathal 30g wire means that you have something loose. A 6 wrap 30 kathal coil should read about 1.6-1.9 ohms. Did you tighten the bases all the way...I have feeling your bases are loose. Make sure everything that can turn is totally tight...especially the bases....or else every time you take the top cap off or put it back on, you will slightly turn the base and that will cause all your readings to go haywire.

I will try rewrapping and tightening down the positive and negative leads when I get home. Also the spacer that screws around the center pole. if that doesnt work, reoxidize it is. Might as well make a new coil too. Thanks :)

Make sure the bases are tight as well....you have the bottom base that goes on your provari and then you have the top base that your negative ground screw is on.....hold the bottom base and then tighten the top base as much as possible. My first builds were done on loose bases and for the first few days I had a very hard time with my ohm readings...like you are experiencing. The reason I am saying something is loose is because you got a 3ohm reading....shorts make your ohm readings go down not up.

Great tip. Sometimes the top spacer screw has a tendency to get loose. Thanks!

I don't think that is his problem because he mentioned that he has a real mini DID in the OP. If he does in fact have a DID clone then what you suggested is probably the cause.

Hi Kemosabe, can you explain a little more what you mean about wrapping electrical tape around the center post? Did you mean to wrap tape around the pole before inserting it into the tube? Sorry, just wanted to be sure. Thanks

you are correct. i forgot that it was a real DID and not a DID clone.
your post may be 100% fine seeign how youve got the real deal. mine is a knock off.
heres another avenue to explore. how did you secure your leads? are they wrapped around the screws/nuts? or are they just pinched by the securing nut/screw and not wrapped around it? i had a problem where i was wrappign the lead around the nut/screw trying to get a secure hold. turns out that this acutally makes for a looser connection than just pinching it. you dont even want 1 single full revoultion of your lead. just a pinch'll do ya.

I built a new coil this morning using 28awg Kanthal, 1.2 ohms. Seems to be working fine. Having said that, i had a phoenix running an SS wick that was vaping great yesterday and crapped out for no reason this morning. So i'm keeping my fingers crossed for the DID. Makes me wonder if i should be doing some kind of Good Wick dance :)

Thanks for all the help!
