My son bought me one from Amazon. It came in yesterday. I took it out of the box, looked at it and then realized I don't have a damned table to mount it to! I'm going to try the counter in the kitchen.
I use a toothpick, seems to work great. No idea on the diameter though.

That's where I have mine Lynn as long as you have a little over hang it will work.
I do! I think I have a small end table up in the attic that I'll bring down if it doesn't.
Honestly in a pinch you could probably attach it to a chair.![]()
Plastic toothpick or clear nail polish on a wooden one and it becomes smoooooth.A toothpick is what I used too! I wound the coil too tight and screwed it up getting it off the tooth pick. Live and learn.![]()

You could also separate the top half from the clamp base and screw it into a piece of wood.I found something!! I borrowed one of those little Eden pure heaters and it has a ledge in the front....perfect!!! I can attach it to the front of it and have access to either side. I'll have to use tape until I can get washers and a wing nut.

I have a coiling jig and have never taken it out of the box. I use a leuer lock needle and freehand it and I can build a pretty darned good coil. Does it build a better coil than is possible to get wrapping it yourself?
I wouldn't say it's better than possible especially if your good at it. But all of my micro coils look identically perfect every single time and doing it by hand would take twice as long and they wouldn't look nearly as good for me. Next time I recoil (later this afternoon) will snap some pics.
I would go with something wider so it's more stable. Like a 1x4 or 1x8, 12 inches long or so.Thanks! What kind of wood, like a 2x4 or something larger?
I'll make this thing work one way or the other!![]()

I saw a video on building an oval coil for my aero tanks! The guy built an oval rather than building two separate single coils and he used a zip tie! But don't zip ties come in different sizes? Does anyone use this method? If so, what size zip tie??????
That would be perfectActually, I used an old wooden cutting board that's about 12x12 square 2 inches thick. I never used it because it was cleaned with something months ago that transferred the taste to whatever I cut on it. Took the base off like you suggested, eyeballed the center of the cutting board and bolted it to the center so I have a bit of "work table" all the way around it. Thanks for the suggestion!!
