does the measured ohms of a coil change depend on the atty that it is measured on?? SAME coil, measured different ohms on RM2 and Cyclone, close but not the same. Used Multi-meter on my Grand. Any feedback? Thanks.
It is certainly possible, most likely, actually. Different atties have different metals & grades, plus different post designs. Positive pin material becomes a factor too.
I agree, it's the length of the legs. Some attys require fairly long legs. Others, the legs will be very short. Either case will affect resistance, even if the coil diameter and number of wraps are the same.
Length of legs, quality of post screw down, is the wire trapped dead center or side trapped, flatness of post screws, types of metal on atty and screws, 510 pin, 510 pin connection...many many factors.
My vote is for leg length difference too. Resistance is determined strictly by the length of wire from contact point to contact point (assuming wire gauge is the same). It matters not how tightly (or for that matter what shape) the wire is wrapped. There is prolly some variation due to materials used in the atty itself, but I would expect that to be insignifcant for our purposes.
