Ok, so I just started building my own coils for my protank 2. I wanted to get 30 guage kanthal, or 32, but my local b&m only had 28. So I made 2 microcoils, both read 1.2 ohms, but only 1 worked. The other one read the 1.2 ohms after I finished putting it back together, but come time to use it it was reading 0.0 ohms on my MVP 2. Did it just simply short out against the side of the housing after I put it back together, or did something else happen. And why can't I get any higher than 1.2 ohms. One I did 10 wraps, the other 12. The one with 10 wraps is the one that is now reading 0.0, but they both read out at 1.2 when I finished wrapping them

Sounds to me like it either isn't making a connection or it is shorted against the wall once installed in the PT. Did you put it together and then recheck the ohms on an ohms checker? Also possible the MVP won't read anything below 1.2 (shocked it reads that low actually) and the coil may be just ever so slightly below 1.2 so the 0.0 in essence is their "low res" type of warning.

Not much room inside the PT head. 28 is pretty big for them, and it's likely something shifted to contact the base when you assembled it. Or you may have left the legs a tad too long, and they're bent up and touching the sides. For a higher resistance that fits, you pretty much need to go with 30 or 32.

From my research in this forum, I'm looking into rebuilding for the protank coils. 28 is popular for the RBA crowd, but the gauge also works with resistance. There is a thread and spreadsheet floating around here, and I will be buying the 32 for wrapping when I get my kanthal. I don't need any new coils yet (I have a box I never broke into, and another I needed to steal from when I lost the plastic grommet from replacing flavor wicks). So far, the cleaning and replacing wicks works real well. Have some 2mm silica on the way, though will eventually get into cotton. My next coil ordr will be the last replacement box for aspire bdc's (glas ets) and kanthal. Will take me awhile to learn hiw to rebuild aspires, but my new cleaning with isopropyl and boiling water seems to be paying off in the meantime.

Though will eventually move to all solid tanks (evods, pt minis, and aspire bdc's), I still clean my iclear 30 coils, and have 5 brand new coils unopened.
