Good question... oxidation or rust. Well, definitely with mandrels (I read you were a lampworker too Sue, from your notes
) the 316L rusts after repeated heating and cooling, but it's much better about it than other SS, and you can just sand most of the rust off, it's not usually pitting. But if it just sits without heating, then it's probably oxidation. I see what you mean. I would have it on the porch a lot, that's where I torch... hrm.
I should be getting my black extended Provari 18360-sized in the mail tomorrow, so I'll see how the paint is on that then decide. That's the one I'll probably keep on the porch, so I'll have a painted one already. But the humidity here is always like that, so it would be subject to a lot of humidity even just taking it out with me. I think the zombie one is sooooo neat looking especially with the unique cap, but I REALLY like the chrome look too and I just can't decide...
