Ok, Ok. I know you're not supposed to and honestly I don't but dang would it be convenient to charge my 18650s overnight.

I have a good i4 charger and good batteries but charging them takes like 3.5 or 4 hours! Wasn't an issue as I have spares and just rotated them until I got a Duke mod. Have to get a new set of 18650s that run lower than 10a and always use them in a pair. I know the simple answer is to just buy another pair for the Duke but really wish I could just put them in the charger at night and wake up to a fresh set.

I charge mine overnight, I know your not supposed to, but I do so I can have fresh batteries when I leave for work in the morning.

I use a Nitecore Charger, I would never do it with my $3 single port cheapo charger.

People who say that are looking at it in the "Worst case scenario", I look at it as hey you could have a short in your breakers, or your breaker could blow making a fire, and there are hundreds of things that can just burst into flames randomly in your home.

Your cell phone probably has a "Plain-ole" Lithium Ion battery in them which are at a much higher risk of overcharging and exploding than your IMR batteries, but people still charge their cell phones over night.

IMR batteries CANNOT BE OVERCHARGED; from what I have read (I would take that for a grain of salt until you research and confirm that)

Even nitecore chargers can fail...

Personally i'm not doing that. Rather safe than sorry! :)

Only all the time. It takes a while to charge 2400 mah batteries.
I have tile floors.
I have a Pyrex dish.
I put the batteries in the charger
I put the charger in the Pyrex
I put the Pyrex on the floor
I go to bed
...
About mod-morning the next day, the batteries are charged.

As long as you observe basic safety, you can charge things overnight. I get a bit frustrated with people who refuse to charge ecig batteries overnight, but it's ok to charge the cell phone, iPad and android from a charging station hooked up to an extension cord.

I charge my batteries overnight. I'm quite often at not home other than for sleep so I don't have much of a choice. Sure, even a good charger can fail, but I deem the possibilities of something catastrophic to happen be so slight that I'm ok with the risk.

No, I never charge overnight. EVER. I make sure I own at least double the amount of batteries I need to power my devices. That way, devices are full of charged batteries, while there's some on the charger in the evenings, when I can keep an eye on it. Spending an extra $30-$40 (or even less, if you need less) to have enough batteries to have a two day supply minimum is a TINY price to pay for good and safe battery usage and charging. Vape on and charge safe, my friends!

ETA: Some will call be overly cautious (or even paranoid). I do NOT care. I do not charge ANY lithium type batteries unattended or while sleeping. Yep, no laptops, cell phones, or tablets are charged overnight, either.

I do. I just put it in a Lipo bag.

Really, if i can't leave it alone without high risk of explosion, it's probably a bad idea anyway and i should just stop charging batteries at all.

It's not a high (in frequency, it is very rare) risk situation. However, when it happens, it can be very, very bad. Lithium batteries are serious business. I know as a culture, we've grown so accustomed to them, as they are prevalent in everything we use now: cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc. But as a family that has many RC hobbyists, I take a cue from them WRT to battery safety. Never unattended, proper chargers and safety precautions in place.

LiPo bags are a VERY good suggestion, especially when coupled with other safety measures. We cannot rely on the sack to keep a thermal runaway from burning down our house, should a battery blow 6 hours before anyone would notice. They are great for attended battery charging, though.

IF you must use a charge Lipo bag for sure.

I have 3 panasonic NCR18650PFs i rotate, i chargr as often as i can during the day and since im a field tech i charge in my work truck often (xtar wp2 II is nice, comes with cat adpter). I do charge overnight however. I usually vape my last of the day battery down to 3.7v and slap it on the charger right as i lay down to go to bed and flip the selector switch to 0.5a from 1.0a so i grt a longer charge time (2900mah batt). I generally only sleep 6hrs a night so the battery doesnt stay charged on the charger for more than 1.5 to 2hrs. The charger is excellent and never overcharges, batts always meter at 4.192v coming off (fluke meter, calibrated 12/13).

I'll buy another pair for this mod which demands its own pair, just a pain really. My Panasonic 18650s and eFest purples charge completely in like an hour but these Orbtronic SX22 2000 mah batteries take 3.5 to 4 hours to completely charge!

Is it Really that Bad?

LOL

Risk assessment: I'm more likely to have problems before you do. :)
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be safe!

Nah, when I do have something go wrong (I prepare with the mindset that something could and will), I won't burn my house down or blowup my laptops. Might melt or singe something, but everyone gets to live ;).

If you're overly cautious like myself, I do charge overnight, however I've installed a smoke detector near the charging area, and placed my charger in this:

Just keep it ajar...please!
