So I used to be really active here several years back. I stopped vaping because I started to have issues with coughing and harshness after I started using variable voltage and got hooked on it.

I am thinking of trying to quit again with vaping. I have done a little research and I see that "Nicotine Salt" is supposed to be a little less harsh, and may be a better option for me this time around.

So give me some tips and options to get started again with a cheap, simple kit for the nicotine salt type juices. I'd like to find both a really solid kit for somewhere around 30 bucks that I can easily get coils for, (They didn't even do all of these rebuildables and stuff when I was vaping, so I want something simple), and also a couple of suggestions for flavorful nic-salt juices.

What should I buy? Who has the best bang for the buck in these types of juice? How long do these new-fangled coils last and what should I look for? Help an old-school vaper make good choices so I can come back and kick the tobacco.

Hi and welcome back!
How many cigarettes are you smoking per day?
What device(s) have you used in the past?
Do you want something button activated or draw activated?

For convenience, I might suggest you start with a "pod" system to begin the journey away from the cigarettes.
The innokin "EQs" may be a good place to start.
Do you have a vape shop in your town?
Flavours are very personal, you will have to find the tobacco/fruit/custard/vanilla/breakfast cereal/dessert flavour that suits YOU best.

Pods work best with 70%VG or less. I use 25mg/ml freebase in my pods or throat hit is non-existent.

Best of luck!
I

Probably smoking 3 packs a day.
I have used a BUNCH of devices, I used to have all kinds of conventional stuff like the EGO and also box mods and larger more expensive variable voltage devices.

I want something that is a MTL device.

Looking specifically for stuff related to nic salts. Maybe even some advice and experience with using the salts vs traditional liquids.

I'll look into this pod thing. I kinda dig the cylindrical design as opposed to the box design.

I don't use nic salts myself, but I hear tell that you can use them in ANY vape device, so you don't necessarily need to use a pod mod to use nic salts. Pod mods are compact and "convenient" to use, but that convenience can be more expensive to use over the long term if the replacement pods themselves are propietary to a specific manufacturer.

One of the more popular and inexpensive mod setups recommended on this forum is the Innokin Kroma and Zenith tank starter kit. MTL draw as requested.

most of today's MTL devices are what were considered cloud chasers when i started. And by the sounds (no rebuildables yet) you hail back further.
When i started, drilling out an RDA (since AFC hadn't started yet) to 1.5mm was "airy"

So, i suspect when you say MTL, you mean proper MTL like back then?

Tesla Tpod, amazing flavor, amazing pods or coils... they last a while!
pretty restrictive hit, mtl for sure! also salt nics satisfies the need of nic faster compared to vape mods and free base nic, also nic salt is mostly used on pods, since they are high ohm and low powe, i dont recommend to use salt nic on sub-ohm vaping, higher ohm coils and low wattage!
i do use also salt nic on a mtl RTA with 1.3ohm coil on temp control, flawless, cough a bit, but satisfies the need!

Regards,

When you say you cough, are you saying that the nic salts are more harsh than freebase? I stopped vaping because it started to become harsh and made me cough. I attributed it to me cranking up voltages, but in the end even turning it down was feeling harsh. I vaped for at least a year before that started happening. I'm really looking for something that has a throat hit, but isn't cough inducing. I had heard that the nic salts were not as harsh. Is that true or no?

What about this device? It seems to have good reviews.. If Grimm Likes it, it's probably decent.

I tried the Q.
IMO, it is NOT a MTL draw.
There is a huge thread about it here: Lost Vape Orion
I wanted one until I tried it. (sad emoji)

I had heard that the nic salts were not as harsh. Is that true or no?
Nic salts are PH adjusted to be less irritating to mucus membranes.
A balance (a smooth satisfying throat hit and high nicotine content) can be found mixing regular and salt nicotine solutions together.

totally, a bit more, since they come with bigger amounts, for example regular freebase e liquid comes in 03, 06mg strength, salt nic comes in 2830-35mg strength, is meant for some puffs and take you out the need of a cigarette or nicotine not mean for chain vaping... useful since are small enough, great for stealth vaping and also pod heads are meant for some refills and then replace, unfortunately i have not seen any rebuildable,

I diy my juice and use both freebase and salts. I do find very little difference at low mgs, but a definite difference the higher you go. No way could I vape 25 mg freebase, yet I do salts like that with no problem.

That said, salts are no better in most of my daily vapes, which tend to be dl RBAs.

I use the salts in a Flint kit, which is more of an AIO where you can change the coil, or even the tank, if you need to. Very nice little device, inexpensive to buy and use.

I also have a Yihi mini mi pod, which is (at least I think) a little in the pricey side for a pod, but it’s not plastic, which I like, and it’s small and tube-like. The pods aren’t too pricey- $2-3 each, but they last longer with unflavored juice around 50pg/50vg - but I like a sweet juice that tends to foul coils, so ymmv.

Flint on the left, mini mi on the right.
